children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Since the last inspection, staff have worked hard to improve the outcomes for the young person in all areas of her life. This includes health, education and emotional well-being. Staff work hard to keep the young person safe. Staff identify and manage the young person’s individual risks. Behaviour management plans and individual risk assessments are well recorded. Staff are vigilant to indications of risk. Staff identify the risks that the young person may encounter when going missing from the home or displaying self-harmful behaviours. Staff take swift action to safeguard and promote positive behaviour. Staff are fully aware of the young person’s health needs. Staff have developed positive working relationships with health professionals, such as the therapist and local CAMHS team. All professionals work together to ensure that the young person’s physical and mental health needs are met. Staff support the young person to understand and manage her behaviour in a

positive environment. Staff know the young person well and identify when the young person is distressed. Staff work alongside the clinical psychologist to devise appropriate safety and behaviour management plans. Staff have worked hard to improve the education outcomes for the young person. Since her starting point, education has significantly improved and the young person is now attending on a regular basis. The staff team is consistent and delivers good care to the young person. Staff value the manager and reported that she is supportive and readily available. Staff receive regular supervision and attend regular team meetings that focus on their professional development and the progress that the young person has made. However, the manager was unable to demonstrate that she receives the same level of supervision. The manager does not have access to her own supervision records and has not had the opportunity to sign these.

Requirements made at the last inspection have been mostly met. Medication records have improved and demonstrate that staff are administrating and delivering medication in line with current procedures. Consequences and incentives are proportionate and demonstrate consultation with the young person to support her to improve her behaviour and understand the impact that her actions can have on other people. However, the provider needs to be proactive in making improvements in the environment to ensure that it is warm and well presented. Inspection report children’s home: SC022442 3
