Information about this children’s home
This privately owned service provides education, care and accommodation for up to 61 children who have learning disabilities and/or challenging behaviours associated with autism spectrum disorder. For some children, this is their home. Other children have term-time only placements, and a small number of day pupils also come for short breaks. The manager was registered with Ofsted in August 2018.

This monitoring visit
An interim inspection took place on 14 January 2020 where the provider was judged as declined in effectiveness. A restriction of accommodation notice was issued on 24 January 2020 for the period 24 January 2020 to 15 April 2020. A compliance notice was issued on 27 January 2020 in relation to regulation 12, the protection of children standard.

This monitoring visit
The purpose of this visit was to assess if the steps to meet the compliance notice had been met. No children have arrived or left the home since the last inspection. Senior leaders have complied with the restriction of accommodation notice. The registered manager has ensured that the strategies recommended by other professionals have been written into the relevant care plan and risk assessment. She has ensured that staff know the strategies, have the right equipment and are confident to apply the agreed procedures in practice. The placing social worker has agreed the approach. There has been no high-risk physical intervention since the last inspection. Documents examined for other physical interventions clearly show why such an Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC367623 2 intervention was required, and that a manager reviewed it. The registered manager has introduced a system to show how staff monitor breathing, communication and

circulation in the event of a high-risk physical intervention. This new system is yet to be tested. The registered manager has ensured that staff have had training in completing body maps for unexplained marks on children. She ensures that there are weekly meetings to discuss any immediate or evolving concerns. Records demonstrate a significant improvement since staff have completed the training and now prompt staff to consider if a safeguarding or behavioural support route is necessary. Staff are aware of, and follow, the control measures in risk assessments. They have the necessary equipment available such as a pillow to cushion a child’s head in the event of self-harming behaviour. Senior leaders have taken the decision to voluntarily restrict the number of children they accommodate while they implement the recruitment strategies to increase staffing. The requirement under the leadership management standard remains in
