Inspection report children’s home: SC456474 1 SC456474 Registered provider: Cambian Childcare Limited Interim inspection Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
This is a privately run children’s home that provides care and accommodation for up to six children who may have complex emotional and/or behavioural difficulties. The manager has been in post since October 2019. She has applied to become the registered manager of the home.

p.1
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
This home was judged good at the last full inspection. At the interim inspection, Ofsted judges that it has sustained effectiveness.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The children continue to make progress. Some of the children are now attending full-time education and one child is planning for their future college placement. When the children have a reduced timetable, the staff create informal learning plans, while continuing to promote the child’s routine in the home. The children have found new hobbies and are enjoying activities. This positive engagement enables the children to build relationships with the staff and form friendships with their peers.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The manager has improved her oversight of the home and provides the staff with the guidance and support to manage the children’s needs effectively and safely. The manager takes the safety of the children seriously and calls upon the support of other professionals when incidents occur within the home. Comprehensive records, including risk assessments, evidence the work that the staff do and the measures implemented to safeguard the children while investigations are completed. However, when historical risks are removed from the children’s risk assessments, there is no audit trail of information to support this decision.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The children express their wishes and feelings to different people and professionals. The manager is a good advocate for the children and ensures that the child’s voice is heard and that their questions are answered. This is in addition to the independent advocate visiting the children.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The manager ensures that all decisions made about the children moving into and out of the home are in the children’s best interests. When children move into the home, the risks are identified and mitigated to ensure that there is minimal impact on the other children. Children moving on from the home experience a positive and planned ending, when possible, and the manager appropriately challenges placing authorities if this is contrary to the ethos of the home.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Good partnership working with families and professionals helps the staff to meet the needs of the children. The staff attend meetings to ensure that there is good multi- agency planning for the children. This enables strategies to be identified and implemented to help maintain the children’s progress and protection. The manager is confident at challenging professional practice if this impacts on the safety and well-being of the children.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The manager demonstrates a clear understanding of the strengths of practice within her staff team. The staff feel supported to improve their practice and this is discussed in the team meetings and supervisions. However, supervision records are not routinely available on staff files. Inspection report children’s home: SC456474 3 Improvements continue to be made to the home’s decoration and furnishing. Home improvements are evident in both the communal areas and in the children’s bedrooms. Some recent behavioural incidents have led to damage to the internal fire doors, and this directly affects their efficiency. There is an action plan to quickly repair these doors.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Not all of the previous actions have been met. Some records were illegible and some of the children’s records contained information that they are not privy to. A requirement relating to allegations against professionals has been carried forward as the provider has been unable to test this out. Inspection report children’s home: SC456474 4
