Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC457621 1 SC457621

p.1

Cambian Childcare Ltd

Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework

p.1

Information about this children’s home

The home is owned by a private provider. It is registered to provide care for two young people who have emotional and/or behavioural difficulties.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Significant shortfalls were identified in relation to the leadership of the home and to young people’s safety at the last inspection. The organisation temporarily closed the home so that it could implement the necessary improvements, restructure the staff team and appoint a new manager.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The purpose of this monitoring visit was to assess if the home is ready to accept new admissions.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The majority of staff are new and in their probationary period. Some are not experienced. Very few staff hold the relevant diploma qualification in line with the regulations. However, they are enrolled on the relevant course.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The staff rota makes the best use of more experienced staff. This will help to ensure that there is an appropriate level of competence and experience on each shift. Staff training is well organised.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The home is almost in a position where young people can be admitted. Managers are aware that some areas of the home need to be thoroughly cleaned before children are admitted. They are also aware of several health and safety issues that need to be addressed. These include some fire doors that do not close properly. The organisation is committed to making sure that the above work is completed before young people are admitted. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC457621 2 The staff recruitment process is not yet good enough. When potential concerns arise from references or at interview, the acting manager and/or the responsible individual does not demonstrate the steps they have taken to ensure that staff are suitable.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The two requirements set at the last inspection, in relation to safety and leadership, are both carried over. There has been no opportunity to test them because young people have not been living at the home.

p.2

This monitoring visit

The home has been without a registered manager for over a year. An acting manager has been in place since December 2019 and her application to Ofsted was submitted in February 2020. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC457621 3
