p.1

The provision is good

The childminder provides a calm and stimulating atmosphere and is a positive role model for children, who behave well and show mutual care and respect. Children grow in confidence and are eager to play and learn. They are active and enthusiastic learners, and thoroughly enjoy their time at the setting.

p.2

The provision is good

Children have a positive attitude to learning and persevere at new skills. For instance, the childminder excitedly encourages children to fit difficult shapes into the jigsaw. Children persist for long periods to achieve this, and take great pride in themselves when they accomplish their goal. This helps children to develop resilience. Children speak confidently to the childminder. However, on occasion, the childminder does not recognise that she does not provide enough thinking time for children to process their ideas before she speaks to them.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder is fascinated by how children develop and has attended a wide range of online training to support her understanding further. For example, she encourages young children to use both hands to drink from the cup without a lid, to support their cognitive skills even more. Children enjoy listening to the childminder. They snuggle together and enjoy making animal sounds and pointing to the illustrated creatures on the jigsaw.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder takes children on regular outings that allow them to develop their physical and social skills. The childminder meets with other childminders, so children can play together, build wider friendships and learn to share and take turns. These experiences help to form strong foundations for future experiences, such as starting pre-school or school. This ensures continuity of care and a complementary approach to children's learning.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder plans a good range of activities that reflect children's interests and individual needs. For example, she takes children on outings to various places within the community. They attend toddler groups to help to develop their confidence and social skills. n The childminder knows children well. She observes their achievements and regularly monitors their overall progress. The childminder uses her observations to plan targeted activities that narrow gaps in development and promote progress across all areas of learning. n The childminder interacts well with children to develop their communication and language skills. However, at times, the childminder is overly eager in her questioning and does not give children the time they need to process their thoughts before she provides the answer for them.

p.2

need to do better?

27 February 2020 n Children show high levels of curiosity and concentration in their play. For example, they self-select connecting bricks to build a car and then turn it into an aeroplane. n Children take part in routines that help to promote good health and hygiene. They know to wash their hands before snack and show great pride in washing their hands after they have had their nappy changed. n The childminder is very attentive to the personal care of the children. She is incredibly patient, kind and supportive of children's developing needs. She is quick to recognise when children may be hungry, tired or in need of a cuddle, and responds well to their individual requirements. n Parents speak highly of the childminder and how well she supports children's interests and learning. Written feedback from parents demonstrates the high regard they have for the childminder. n The childminder does not routinely reflect on the planned and spontaneous

activities she provides so that she can continually promote opportunities for children to make exceptional progress.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures. She recognises the possible signs and symptoms of abuse, and demonstrates a clear understanding of what to do if she has any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder keeps her safeguarding knowledge up to date by attending refresher training. She carries out daily checks on all areas of her home to ensure children play in a safe and secure environment. Necessary suitability checks for adults living on the premises are completed.

should:

n develop further strategies to increase children's thinking skills and give time for them to respond to questions and share their ideas n enhance self-evaluation to include a reflection on planned and spontaneous activities to extend opportunities for children to make exceptional progress.
