The provision is good
Children are valued as individuals, which gives them the confidence to play and explore freely. They are supervised well at all times. The environment is safe and provides children with a variety of toys and resources. For example, in the role-play area, children remain interested as they engage in imaginary play. The childminder joins in using her good skills to support children's ideas. Children enjoy looking at books. The childminder reads enthusiastically and teaches children new words to help extend their vocabulary. Children watch, listen and respond well. The childminder successfully supports children's love of nursery songs. She encourages children to sing along, varying the pace between slow and rapid, which adds to their enjoyment. Children show pride in their efforts and clap their hands to show that they are happy. These opportunities help children to develop positive attitudes to learning. need to do better?
n Although the childminder observes and assesses children's learning regularly, she does not use the information as effectively as possible, to help children make the best possible progress. n The childminder organises a range of outings, such as to the park and playgroups, to aid children's social and physical abilities. She offers children opportunities to practise their mark-making and writing skills. However, children have fewer opportunities to see print in the environment to further develop their early reading skills. n Children enjoy sensory play, such as with sand. They use their hands and a range of tools skilfully to create different shapes. Children are encouraged to count and identify basic shapes during activities, to help promote their mathematical skills. n The childminder works closely with parents because she understands that partnerships with them help to support children consistently. Parents receive

The older ones take off their shoes and coat without needing much support. They are keen to do things for themselves, including hygiene routines which aid their good health. Children have good levels of motivation. n The childminder seeks the views of parents to help evaluate her practice for the benefit of their children. For instance, since the last inspection, she has purchased new resources to build on children's imaginative play. n The childminder extends her professional development. For example, after reading relevant publications, she has improved her knowledge of children's development, specifically how some girls and boys prefer to play.
