p.1
The provision is inadequate
The childminder does not have a secure knowledge and understanding of all statutory requirements of the early years foundation stage. She also has limited understanding of how to plan and provide an effective early years curriculum. This has an impact on children's care and learning. Although children are content in the childminder's care, activities are not well planned and as a result children do not remain engaged and focused. The childminder does not use her observations well enough to adapt the environment or activities to build on what children can already do. Although the childminder states that she plans activities around the children's interests, this is not always evident in practice. For instance, she stopped an activity when children were enjoying playing in the water. The childminder offers praise throughout the activities, but children quickly lose interest as they are not offered enough challenge. There is a limited range of resources available to

consistently meet children's learning needs and support their development.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
The childminder's knowledge and understanding of safeguarding is weak. This compromises children's safety. The childminder, however, does complete daily risk assessments to reduce the hazards to children in everyday play.

need to do better?
n The childminder does not evaluate and reflect on her practice. She has not identified breaches in requirements and areas of weakness, such as in the quality of education. She uses an online learning journal but relies on this to identify next steps for the children's learning, rather than basing these on their individual needs. She has not developed her knowledge and skills or kept up with changes. This has an impact on how well she can support children's learning and provide an appropriate early years curriculum. n The childminder does not ensure she completes all mandatory training. As a result, her safeguarding knowledge and understanding are out of date. This puts the children at risk of harm. n The childminder does not maintain all the necessary records to meet the requirements of her registration and to support children's health and welfare. The childminder does not keep an accurate record of accidents or children's

hours of daily attendance. This compromises children's health, well-being and safety. n The childminder provides limited experiences and opportunities to support children's all-round development. When children were taking part in a painting activity, the childminder offered support in naming the colours. However, she failed to adapt the activity when children became more interested in the water to clean the brushes. Instead she took it away completely. There are few experiences that challenge gender stereotypes or that teach children about other

She did not, however, talk to children consistently throughout the rest of the inspection. This prevents the children from hearing rich language and vocabulary to help with their language development. n The childminder does not support the children's understanding of healthy lifestyles. She does not encourage them to drink water and eat a healthy lunch. n The childminder has strong links with parents. They speak positively about the provision and value the childminder's flexible approach. n The childminder does not fully understand her responsibility to complete a progress check for children aged between two and three years. Although she does an annual report for parents, this does not identify the children's strengths and any areas where their progress is less than typical, as required.
p.2
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder has not kept her safeguarding knowledge up to date to help her carry out her role. Although the childminder knows the possible signs of abuse and is able to explain how she would report such concerns, she does not understand the wider issues surrounding safeguarding. For instance, she lacks knowledge of the 'Prevent' duty guidance and signs of female genital mutilation. The childminder understands why it is important to record children's daily hours of attendance. However, she does not keep these records, as required. The childminder's overall lack of regard for safeguarding compromises children's safety and welfare.
