This provision meets requirements

The childminder ensures a very calm, friendly and nurturing environment for children. She cares for children exclusively before and after school and they quickly settle when returning from school. Children form excellent relationships with the childminder and with each other. They are happy, relaxed and safe in the childminder's care.

p.2

This provision meets requirements

The childminder has very high expectations for every child's learning, behaviour and conduct. As a result, children are extremely well behaved. They have excellent attitudes towards activities and swiftly get involved, making their own choices. There is a wide range of age-appropriate and stimulating resources available for children both indoors and outdoors. They also have thought-provoking opportunities for finding out about different cultural backgrounds and the wider world. For example, the children plan to make worry dolls to help them manage their feelings and research the origins of these.

This provision meets requirements

Children enjoy books and they use them consistently well to enhance their experiences. The childminder also chooses and provides books linked to children's interests and with certain children in mind. Other resources are also used well, such as the internet and reference books. Children explore these for fact-finding information and guidance, for example, step-by-step drawing instructions. Children are inquisitive and also regularly use maps to locate different countries and places relating to the current theme. They also locate and learn about holiday destinations they will be visiting with their family.

n The childminder provides an inclusive setting and knows the children in her care very well. She is aware of what each child likes to do when they attend. The childminder ensures she gives children healthy snack choices after school. Snack times are relaxed and sociable occasions for children. They also engage in good hygiene procedures, such as regular handwashing at appropriate times. n The childminder interacts exceptionally well with the children. She is an excellent role model and praises children's positive behaviour and attitudes. For example, she encourages children to persist with their paintings to achieve the outcome they want. Children demonstrate a sense of achievement and proudly show their finished paintings. They concentrate very well when involved in activities, such as a complex puzzle game. This promotes children's mathematical and problem- solving skills, as well as their confidence and self-esteem.

They also enjoy participating in role play when playing cooperatively with shopping baskets, shopping items and a cash till. This promotes their language and communication skills, their creativity and also their personal, social and emotional development. n Care practices have a positive impact on children's confidence and self- motivation, as well as on their physical and emotional well-being. Children have made self-portraits which helps them to understand what makes them unique. Also, this supports them to identify and celebrate similarities and differences. n The childminder ensures that children have excellent opportunities to challenge them both intellectually and physically. One example of this is when they make their own obstacle courses in the garden and take appropriate risks. n Partnership with parents is a particular strength. All parents present during the

inspection, report that they and their children are very happy with the care provided. Some parents left written feedback which was also very positive and included specific things that many of them commented about. For example, parents feel their children are thriving and that they are cared for in a very safe, secure, calm and stimulating environment. The childminder also works well in partnership with the local school that all minded children attend. n The childminder has an outstanding attitude towards continuous professional development. She has completed many additional training courses since the last inspection. The childminder also reviews her provision following each training course and has recorded the impact of that. For example, after completing 'enabling environments' training, she evaluated her home and garden, and made changes to improve outcomes for children. The childminder also seeks children's

and parents' views and ideas for any improvements or future plans.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a very good knowledge and understanding of how to safeguard children. She demonstrates that she is able to identify signs of possible abuse and neglect and would act appropriately to safeguard children's welfare. The childminder helps children to keep themselves safe, such as when teaching them safe routines for walking back from school. She also completes appropriate risk assessments for the premises and activities. These, along with her vigilance, help to ensure children's safety and well-being at all times.
