p.1

The provision is good

The childminder is kind, caring and attentive and this helps children to feel happy and settled in her care. She has high expectations for children and provides them with interesting activities that challenge and excite them. For example, children learn new skills while cutting various vegetables to make soup. They persevere and show delight when they manage to cut the vegetables to add to the saucepan. Children use their imaginations as they use the toy drum kit, pretending to put on a show for the childminder and visitors. Children make good friendships with each other. They readily invite others to join in with their play and happily take turns and share resources. Children develop their social skills and learn to be kind and polite. They use the toy tea set to pretend to make drinks and meals for the childminder and visitors. Children are developing their independence. They confidently manage their own care needs. The childminder gives frequent praise

They are developing the key skills they need to help prepare them for their future learning, including moving on to school. n The childminder promotes children's communication and language skills well. She engages children in frequent and meaningful conversations and discussions. She models new words to children and talks to them as they play. Children enjoy listening to favourite stories. They join in with familiar phrases and have a go at reading the story afterwards to their friends. n The childminder has built strong partnerships with parents. She keeps them well informed about their children's progress and provides them with updates about

the activities their children have enjoyed. Parents are extremely happy with the level of care their children receive. They say the childminder provides a 'home- from-home setting'. n Children's physical development is given good consideration. The childminder provides children with daily outdoor experiences. They visit local parks and open spaces. Children enthusiastically join in with music and movement sessions led by the childminder. She promotes children's understanding of the importance of following good hygiene routines, reminding them of the reasons why they should wash their hands before eating and after using the potty. n Children gain mathematical knowledge and understanding as they compare and

For example, children talk about how much water they need to add to their soup and they compare quantities while using play dough. n Children's behaviour is good. The childminder provides age- and stage- appropriate reminders. She acts as a good role model and reminds children to be kind and considerate towards others. n The childminder has established good links with some other settings children attend. However, she has not fully developed these partnerships with all settings attended by children to support their learning and development as fully as possible. n The childminder is passionate about providing good-quality care and education to all children. She reflects on her practice to identify further ways to improve. However, the childminder's continued professional development is not targeted closely enough to help her to improve her good teaching to the highest level.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of how to keep young children safe. She completes regular safeguarding training and is confident with the procedures to follow should she need to report any concerns about children's welfare. The childminder maintains a safe environment and supervises the children well. She makes careful risk assessments of her home, garden and places she visits with children to ensure their safety. The childminder teaches children the importance of keeping themselves safe. For example, she talks to them about why only adults are allowed to touch the saucepan while the soup is cooking.
