This home is operated by a private company and was registered in November 2017. The organisation operates a registered school on the same site. The manager was registered with Ofsted in March 2019.

This monitoring visit
Ofsted was concerned about the safety and welfare of the children, specifically in relation to poor safeguarding practices that placed children at risk of harm. This monitoring visit was used to determine whether the actions taken by the provider were sufficient to judge the compliance notice as being met. Further evidence was also examined to determine whether the restriction notice could be lifted.

The provider has commissioned an independent safeguarding investigation undertaken by a suitably experienced and qualified individual. The resulting report contains a detailed analysis of the safeguarding concerns that led to the compliance notice being issued. It identifies a number of contributory factors relating to safeguarding practice in the home. It also identifies a number of recommended actions to improve practice.

This monitoring visit
In response to this report, leaders and managers devised a detailed action plan and the majority of the actions arising have already been implemented. They have undertaken a competency assessment of all staff in relation to their knowledge of Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 1263129 2 safeguarding. Gaps in staff knowledge, identified by this exercise, have been addressed by further training and individual learning sessions.

This monitoring visit
Leaders and managers have provided training for staff to improve their competence in undertaking risk assessments. All individual risk assessments have been updated to an improved standard. These risk assessments identify areas of vulnerability for each child and outline a clear safety plan to reduce risks.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The provider has made other changes to improve safeguarding practice. Leaders have also introduced new systems to enhance management oversight. These include a higher level of support and reflective supervision for the registered manager and a low-level incident reporting system to enable managers to identify concerns and spot any patterns of behaviour. This enables them to intervene at an early stage if concerns about practice emerge. Leaders have also undertaken training with the staff team to ensure that they understand the importance of reporting all safeguarding concerns to the registered manager of the home.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Ofsted considers that the impact of the actions taken so far have improved the safety of the provision. Consequently, the compliance notice is judged to have been met and the restriction of accommodation notice is no longer in force.
