Children make excellent progress in this home. Careful matching has ensured that staff can meet the complex needs of each child well. Very sensitive and careful introductions of children to the home have enabled them to settle well. The management monitoring of the quality of care provided is very good. There is clear evidence that managers and staff understand the complex needs of children. They review and adapt their practices to ensure that children feel safe. They work closely and proactively with a wide range of professionals and agencies. One child has missed a considerable amount of education in previous placements. They now engage well with a tutor and have secured a placement at a specialist college. The college placement was sourced by the manager. This reflects the commitment of leaders and staff to ensuring that the educational needs of children who have additional needs are met. There is also excellent work being done with

local mental health services and the looked after children’s nurse. Children engage in a wide range of social activities. This increases their confidence and sense of belonging. They feel that staff listen to them and care about them. One child said: ‘This is the best place I have ever lived. The staff have really helped me with my behaviours.’ A parent said: ‘The staff are absolutely brilliant. Our child now comes to stay overnight. This has not been possible for a very long time. The staff have followed through with every promise they have made the family and our child.’ One requirement was set at the full inspection, relating to how the home supports children who self-harm. Extensive work has been done to address this requirement. A thorough review of all aspects of the care provided has been undertaken. As a result, there has been a noticeable reduction in self-harming incidents. Where damage is caused to the home, staff report this to the maintenance team in
