p.1

The provision is outstanding

Children are extremely comfortable and confident in the exceptionally well- organised and exciting environment. Young children demonstrate they have formed very close relationships with the childminder and each other. For example, young children lay together on the floor in front of the mirrors, pointing at their faces and smiling and laughing. Children are very independent in choosing what they want to play with. They confidently go to the craft cupboard in the kitchen and take out paper and stickers to make their pictures. They know exactly where the resources are stored and are very eager to explore them. For example, children go straight to the dressing-up box to investigate the bags and purses, persevering as they try and open the zips and clasps to find out what is inside.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

Young children show they are keen to participate in the activities and learn new skills. For example, when the childminder accidentally knocks her ring on the radiator, children show amazement. The childminder seizes the learning opportunity and fetches some different objects such as a wooden bangle and a plastic tube. She encourages the children to listen to the different sounds they make when she knocks them against the radiator. Children show high levels of concentration and develop very good listening skills. The childminder has very high expectations of the children and offers them an abundance of praise and encouragement. Children demonstrate they feel extremely proud of their achievements as, for example, they use sign language to say 'thank you', smile and clap their hands in delight.

n The childminder supports young children's early literacy skills very well. Children sit and listen enthusiastically to the interactive stories they have chosen and are keen to press the buttons to make the sounds come alive. Young children independently choose books and sit on the comfortable child-sized sofa, holding them, turning the pages and 'babbling' the story to their friends. They have lots of opportunities to strengthen their hand muscles in preparation for early writing, for example through threading activities and making patterns with elastic bands on pinboards. n The childminder works meticulously with other professionals and adults at other settings the children attend to ensure she offers a consistent approach to supporting children's development. She attends meetings and liaises with parents to ensure she promotes the most important aspects of children's development in line with advice and training. All children, including those with

special educational needs and/or disabilities, make excellent progress and are supported to reach their full potential. n The childminder promotes children's language development highly effectively.

p.2

need to do better?

5 February 2020 She provides a narrative for what children are doing, repeats words back to them and supports their understanding, using hand signs where appropriate. The childminder provides lots of singing and music activities to encourage children's language and broaden their vocabulary.Young children confidently communicate their wants and needs. n The childminder carefully reflects on her practice and identifies areas for improvement. She has attended training and has recently gained a level 3 qualification in childcare, which has had a very positive impact on her practice. For example, following training on delivering the curriculum, she has created an area based on children's learning styles where they can explore and use a variety of resources creatively. This has sparked children's imaginations. n The childminder places a strong emphasis on helping children learn to share and take turns at a young age. with pom-poms, she helps them understand that they need to each have a turn. Children respond very well to her calm instructions and successfully show they understand the boundaries and expectations. n The childminder has formed highly successful partnerships with parents. Parents report they are very well informed about their children's progress, such as verbally, through an online app and daily messages. The childminder fully involves parents in their children's learning, for example through a 'free library' where parents are encouraged to take home books to share with their children. The childminder has extended this to her local community so families can swap books and have constant new stories to share and help their children develop a love of books. n Young children develop a highly positive sense of self. For example, with parents' input they have created personal books that contain photographs of

their families and people who are special to them. Children are keen to select these and sit with the childminder to look at them and initiate conversations. Children also learn about festivals from other cultures and visit a care home to listen to stories about the olden times.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder fully understands her responsibility in safeguarding children. She has a secure knowledge of child protection and wider safeguarding issues. She knows the procedures to follow if concerned about a child and if an allegation is made. Children's safety and well-being are her utmost priority. She is rigorous in checking the premises daily and making sure the children have a safe and secure space to play. The childminder carries out ongoing risk assessments. For example, she moves the obstacle course around the lawn to prevent any tripping hazards to the children.
