p.1

The provision is good

The childminder has worked hard to address actions set at the last inspection. She has worked closely with the local authority to identify key areas to improve. The childminder observes children during play and assesses their learning accurately. She closely monitors their development and carefully considers what they need to learn next. The childminder shares this information with parents to promote a consistent approach towards their child's learning. She has high expectations of what children can achieve. She plans effective learning opportunities that incorporate children's interests. This helps to keep children motivated and interested in their learning.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder provides a warm, welcoming and homely environment where children feel safe and secure in her care. She builds wonderfully strong relationships with children and acts as a positive role model with her kind, caring and nurturing approach. The childminder sets consistent and clear boundaries and expectations of children's behaviour. She teaches them to value the things that make them unique and respect the differences between people and communities. Children's behaviour is very good. They are polite and remember to use their good manners. Children are happy and settled.

n The childminder promotes children's communication, language and literacy skills very well. She reads stories to children and encourages them to consider what might happen next. Children confidently recall key phrases and refrains. They use props to retell stories and act out familiar scenes. n Children thoroughly enjoy completing simple mathematical challenges with the childminder. They count groups of items and understand that the total number changes if they add more items to a group. Children confidently recognise some familiar numerals and shapes. The childminder is skilled at promoting children's mathematical development. n Children thoroughly enjoy making their own role-play equipment and props. However, she does not provide them with a wide selection of creative craft materials to fully foster their creativity and imagination. In addition, she does not consistently give children enough time to practise using new equipment and

tools independently to enhance their physical skills. n Children are confident and demonstrate very high levels of self-esteem. The childminder provides them with plenty of opportunities to express their individual personalities during dance performances and role play. For example, children practise the skills they have been learning at dance class. They use these to express a range of feelings and emotions. Children delight in the praise that they receive from the childminder.

They follow good hygiene routines and learn the importance of washing their hands thoroughly before mealtimes. n The childminder reflects on her practice and evaluates the quality of her setting. She seeks feedback from parents, children and other professionals to identify key areas to improve. The childminder develops her knowledge and skills through completing her own research online and working with other early years professionals. She accesses training to ensure that she continues to meet all of the statutory requirements of the early years foundation stage.
