Inspection report children’s home: 1276911 1 Registered provider: Aspireone Care Limited Interim inspection Inspected under the social care common inspection framework

p.1

Information about this children’s home

This privately owned home provides placements for up to two children or young people who have come from a variety of situations and backgrounds and have a range of complex needs. The registered manager is suitably qualified.

p.1

Inspection date: 5 February 2020

Enforcement action since last inspection: none Inspection report children’s home: 1276911 2

p.1

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

This home was judged good at the last full inspection. At this interim inspection, Ofsted judges that it has improved in effectiveness.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

The home continues to provide young people with a good standard of care and the registered manager and team have worked hard to drive up standards further. Since the last inspection, one young person has moved out and two have moved in. Staff have supported positive transitions for all of them. When new young people move in, staff visit them in their previous placement, taking the children’s guide and welcome pack to show them. Staff invite them to visit this home to see their bedrooms and meet staff and other young people. Staff consult young people about moves, involving them in the plans. This enables young people to feel welcome and to settle quickly.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Young people continue to enjoy a comfortable, welcoming home with dedicated, caring staff. They develop warm and trusting relationships with staff and talk to them about their emotions and concerns. Skilled staff provide the boundaries and security that young people need to focus on their own needs and make progress. Since the last inspection, staff have enabled young people to engage in therapy, often for the first time. Young people have begun to understand their own emotions and behaviours and how to better self-regulate. These developments enhance young people’s self-confidence, their social development and their well-being. Young people make significant progress in settling in, attending and engaging in school. They develop independence skills and contact with their families improves. Young people have not made any complaints since the last inspection but know how to complain if necessary.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Staff keep young people safe and young people feel safe. Young people who have gone missing in previous placements or who have been violent, have reduced these behaviours significantly. If young people go missing, staff search for them and follow procedures. Young people become better at managing their own anger and anxiety and incidents decrease. Highly trained staff support them to safely enjoy free time and to understand how to take responsibility for their own safety. The registered manager reviews all incidents and physical interventions to ensure that staff safeguarding practice is appropriate, and to identify and act on any learning points.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

The registered manager has developed the skills, knowledge and confidence of her team. She ensures that staff provide young people with the consistency of care that they need. Core staff cover all shifts and no unfamiliar staff are used in the home. This ensures that young people always know the staff and that staff know them well. Staff are either appropriately qualified or are working towards their diploma. One senior staff member is undertaking a level 5 diploma. Staff benefit from regular supervision, team meetings and the strong support of the child-focused, reflective Inspection report children’s home: 1276911 3 registered manager. A detailed and thorough review of the service by the registered manager has led to changes that have ensured that young people’s views, wishes and feelings are increasingly considered, and that staff are better skilled to help young people to move in and out.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

The team works closely with a wide range of other professionals, including social workers, teachers and therapists. This ensures that they identify and understand each young person’s needs. The registered manager challenges other professionals if the needs of young people are not being met. Staff are currently learning about developmental trauma, which is relevant to the needs of the young people. Staff evidence knowledge and understanding of how this affects young people’s emotions and behaviour and how to support them.

p.3

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

The registered manager responded very positively to the requirements from the last inspection. This means that young people’s feedback is now clearly included in the review of the service and considered when planning improvements. The registered manager has improved the matching process when young people move in. This includes identifying and providing any additional training that staff need in advance.
