This home was judged good at the last full inspection. At the interim inspection, Ofsted judges that it has sustained effectiveness.

p.3

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

This children’s home continues to provide a good standard of care. Children are making good progress and they are benefiting from the therapeutic parenting approach that is used by staff. They are happy, they like the staff and they feel that they can talk to the staff about any worries or issues. Children’s voices are listened to and their choices are acted on wherever possible.

p.3

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Most children are doing well with their education and they have excellent attendance. Their behaviour has improved, and they are developing their social skills and self-confidence. Children enjoy doing activities with the staff, and staff also encourage children to utilise community facilities and groups, for example the scouts.

p.3

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Children who move into and out of the home are well supported. The manager has a thorough system for evaluating whether or not the home can meet the needs of a new child, and whether those needs are compatible with the needs of the other children. There is good information sharing and at least two visits prior to the child moving in. If a child leaves the home, this is done in a planned and positive way and the manager is fully involved in facilitating the move.

p.3

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

There are good monitoring arrangements at all levels. The manager completes a monthly report for senior managers in addition to his day-to-day monitoring of the records in the home. He has recently implemented a new system for analysing the progress that children are making, and this provides a graphical representation across four outcomes. He also obtains feedback from stakeholders and children, and analyses incidents to see where improvements can be made.

p.3

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Children are not engaging in risk-taking behaviour such as drug and alcohol misuse or going missing from care. Their behaviour at times can be challenging, however, and this is managed well. There are detailed and up-to-date risk management plans that provide staff with good guidance on the strategies to use to minimise risk. Incidents of self-harm have been responded to promptly and appropriately and specialist input has been sought.

p.3

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Partnership working is good, and staff at the home work hard to support the plans for the children and advocate on their behalf. There is good communication with schools and with children’s social workers. This enables all the relevant agencies involved in a child’s life to work consistently together for the benefit of the child. Inspection report children’s home: SC436386 4
