p.1

The provision is good

Children are happy, safe and comfortable in their surroundings. They have plenty of space to explore indoors and outside. The playroom is inviting and well resourced. Children easily make choices from the wide range of equipment on offer. Children enjoy regular outings, for instance, to parks, play centres and toddler groups. They visit other childminders to engage in activities with their minded children. This helps to build their confidence in socialising with others.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder is well qualified. She aims for children to enjoy their experiences and advance in their development. She knows how to promote children's learning and she does this well. Children show enthusiasm as they engage in purposeful activities that support all areas of their learning. They enjoy completing puzzles and learning about shapes, colours, numbers and letters.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder has high expectations for children's behaviour. This is evident from the way that children behave. Children understand and follow the house rules. Young children are very polite. They frequently use good manners without any prompts from the childminder. Overall, the childminder maintains required records to promote children's welfare. However, she does not closely monitor her paperwork to help her avoid minor errors.

Older children play football. Young children ride wheeled toys and enjoy pushing the dolls around in the buggy. n The childminder promotes children's literacy skills well. All children really look forward to their special event. This is one example of how the childminder helps children to feel valued and included. n Professional development is targeted to further support children's needs. For example, the childminder attended training about supporting children's emotional well-being to help build their confidence when meeting new people. n The childminder has a comprehensive set of policies and procedures, which she shares with parents. They think she provides an excellent service and describe her as 'patient', 'dedicated' and 'highly professional'. n The childminder receives information about children's development from other settings they attend. This gives her a good overview of children's progress and promotes continuity in their learning.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a good understanding of her role and responsibilities in relation to child protection. She attends regular safeguarding training to keep her knowledge updated. This includes training on wider safeguarding matters, such as the 'Prevent' duty. Any concerns about children's welfare would be swiftly reported to the relevant authorities. At times, the childminder cares for a high number of older children after school. However, discussions show that she manages this safely.
