Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC478852 1 SC478852
p.1
Roundhouse Care Ltd
Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
This home is operated by a private provider and is registered to provide care and accommodation for three young people who have social and/or emotional difficulties and learning disabilities.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This children’s home was judged inadequate on 12 December 2019. Ofsted issued a restriction of accommodation notice and eight requirements were raised, one of which was subject to a compliance notice.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This inspection examined progress made at the home against the compliance notice and some requirements. As a result of the progress made, the notice of restriction of accommodation was lifted.
p.1
This monitoring visit
All areas of the compliance notice are now met. The registered manager of the home has reviewed and revised children’s risk assessments. These are now comprehensive and give staff clear direction to follow. New measures, such as a concerns log, have been put in place so that staff can report any concerns and managers can then decide whether these need to be more fully investigated or recorded. This helps staff to develop their understanding of incidents and their safeguarding knowledge. It also helps managers to have an oversight of any concern for children or new or escalating behaviour in the home.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Safeguarding and incident records in the home have been reviewed. They are now clear, systematic and comprehensive. The manager has developed new systems to monitor these records monthly. The clarity of records helps managers to make decisions. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC478852 2 Since the last inspection, the registered manager has ensured that staff are trained in assessing risk and understanding children’s risk assessments. Managers have also reviewed the safeguarding policy to ensure that up-to-date safeguarding procedures are in place and that staff have received training about these procedures. Managers then use supervision and team meetings to ensure that understanding is embedded. This means that staff have support and time to develop their knowledge. Staff report feeling that their practice is safer with the additional training and developed systems that are in place.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Staff now plan key-working sessions that take into account children’s care plans, placement plans and risk assessments. Records are more comprehensive and include a record written to the child. This provides greater clarity for children when they review their records now and in the future. Staff reflect on key-working sessions in their supervision and case reviews with the manager. This means that work with children is in line with children’s plans and development needs and children’s records will help them understand their lives.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Following risk assessment reviews, managers have met with children’s social workers to discuss the needs of children in the home. This has led to one child moving to a placement that will better meet the child’s needs. Managers are making confident decisions based on their knowledge of children.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Staff in the home are all appropriately qualified for their roles or are enrolled on courses to become qualified. Training records are clear. This means that children in the home are supported by knowledgeable and appropriately trained staff.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Managers have worked hard to review their monitoring systems in the home and have strengthened them considerably. These systems were being embedded at the time of this monitoring visit, and will be fully considered at the next inspection to see whether they realise the continuous improvement managers are striving for.
