p.1
The provision is good
The childminder creates an inclusive environment for children. She knows the children well and provides activities that follow their interests. Children interact with adults happily and with interest, demonstrating good self-esteem as they play. For instance, they call out to adults to show off their balancing skills on outdoor play equipment. Children demonstrate an understanding of size and shape, and learn to recognise numbers, such as on blocks and magnetic numbers. They develop good observation skills. For example, they successfully made a tower from cubes of play dough, having followed the teacher's example.
p.2
The provision is good
Children engage well in activities and enjoy exploring and making new discoveries. For example, they independently decided to use cars and trucks to play with, using lentils. They selected a range of resources to use to put the lentils into containers. The childminder uses opportunities such as these to encourage children to count and learn new words. However, she does not routinely give children enough opportunities to reflect and come up with their own solutions during play.
p.2
The provision is good
The childminder works in collaborative partnership with children's schools. They share continuity of care as she gathers relevant information from the teachers about the children's needs.

need to do better?
n Children form warm, secure and trusting relationships with the childminder. They are confident in their environment and invite the childminder into their play. Children ask for support without hesitation. For example, they choose to work together with the childminder to complete jigsaw puzzles. n Children learn to develop independence skills and manage their self-care needs well. For example, they attempt to put on their shoes and coats, and wash their hands when they return indoors. Children benefit from nutritious snacks, regular exercise and fresh air in all weathers. This helps to promote their physical health. n The childminder takes children on regular outings in the local community. For example, children enjoy visits to local museums, shops and music groups. This helps children to develop good social skills. The children gain an understanding of the wider world. They benefit from walks to local parks, where they access

large play apparatus. Children develop an understanding of how to keep themselves safe, such as negotiating their way safely over play equipment. In addition, they learn about road safety. n Children are prepared well for the next stage of education in schools. They show good control and coordination in their large- and small-muscle movements, which is appropriate for their stage of development.

need to do better?
16 January 2020 n The childminder constantly talks to children, explaining what is happening. She encourages children to make choices to boost their confidence in speaking. For example, children enjoy telling her what they would like to eat and play with during the morning. The childminder introduces new words through stories and play with children. However, children are not given adequate time to consider their responses and tell the childminder. n Partnerships with parents are strong. The childminder holds informal conversations with parents daily so that they are fully aware of their children's day. Parents are comfortable to ask questions. Parents stated that they are very happy with the care that their children receive, and that their children are keen to attend. They spoke of the benefits of guidance from the childminder, such as when their children are being weaned on to solid food. n The childminder attends local authority meetings and accesses training to keep

her knowledge up to date. For instance, she uses her knowledge of curriculum development in the early years to help her to promote children's well-being. n The childminder has high expectations of children's behaviour, and explains this to them calmly. This results in children's prompt responses to instructions. For example, they help to tidy up before going outdoors.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder has a secure knowledge of the signs of possible abuse and neglect. She knows how to make a referral to the relevant agencies, and has the essential contact details readily to hand if she has a concern about a child's welfare. The childminder is committed to ensuring that her knowledge and skills are up to date. For instance, she regularly undertakes relevant training and is proactive in developing her understanding of wider safeguarding issues, such as exploitation.
