p.1

The provision is good

Children have fun and are visibly happy in the warm and welcoming environment. The childminder has a strong understanding of how children learn and uses her careful observations to plan activities that capture their excitement. For instance, older children are eager to sit down to play card games with her and are excited to identify the cards that match. The childminder communicates clear instructions and supports children to develop their understanding that games have rules. She supports children to develop a secure understanding of turn taking and sharing and embeds respect in all aspects of their routines. Children listen carefully to instructions and ask questions to check their understanding. They demonstrate that they feel safe and secure.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder knows her children well and has high expectations of what they can achieve. Children are keen to do things for themselves and are developing a very positive attitude to their learning. The childminder offers children good opportunities to practise using their fine motor skills. For example, children develop good hand-eye coordination and demonstrate control of their bodies as the childminder helps them to cut with scissors. Children enjoy sharing books and eagerly recall familiar stories. For instance, they enthusiastically complete the sentences from their favourite stories as the childminder reads, and talk about what comes next. This supports the development of their early literacy skills.

n The childminder has attended a wide variety of training to develop her professional knowledge since her last inspection. For instance, she has attended training to extend her knowledge of working with babies. This has supported her to develop the resources and activities she provides for very young children to support them to make the best possible progress. n Children's communication skills are well supported. For example, the childminder encourages them to identify the pictures on dominoes, count how many pictures are the same and to identify their colours. She consistently repeats words and phrases back to children, helping them to correct their pronunciation. n The childminder develops children's mathematical skills well. For instance, as children cut their fruit for snack time, they count how many pieces that they have and enjoy discovering halves. However, occasionally, the childminder misses opportunities to challenge children even further to extend their skills of

For example, children hold hands and help one another as they walk up the stairs. They are keen to show the childminder how they can cut their fruit safely at snack time. n The childminder regularly evaluates her provision to help her identify her strengths and areas of development. She regularly seeks the views of parents and children. For example, since her last inspection, she has developed her systems for observing and monitoring children's development to ensure that she shares this with parents even more frequently. n The childminder consistently shares information with parents about their child's development. For instance, she provides a communication diary, photographs and information about their progress in their learning. Parents speak highly of

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder is committed to ensuring children's personal safety at all times. She regularly attends training to ensure that her safeguarding knowledge is up to date. She knows the signs that indicate a child may be at risk of abuse or neglect and the procedures to report any concerns about a child's well-being. She understands the need to protect children from extreme behaviours and ideas. The childminder continually assesses her environment to ensure that it is safe and secure and is vigilant to potential hazards that may occur.
