This home was judged requires improvement to be good at the previous full inspection. At the interim inspection, Ofsted judges that it has improved effectiveness.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Children continue to receive good-quality care and their experiences are positive. Since the previous inspection, one child continues to live at the home and another child has moved in. This child’s introduction and move into the home was seamless. Because of a planned and well-considered introduction, the child has settled in well and has personalised her bedroom and play room. Staff report that the young person frequently refers to herself and her co-resident as [name of home] brother and sister. The registered manager uses a multi-agency approach to manage children’s complex needs and behaviours. He has developed and maintained a positive and cohesive working relationship with several agencies and children’s families. As a result, staff are now provided with up-to-date information about each child’s care and education plans and their individual targets. Staff manage children’s behaviour well. This is because they have the skills to

respond to children’s changing needs. Consequences for unwanted behaviour are rare. When imposed, they are restorative. Staff currently record sanctions in incident reports. The registered manager recognises that a single central record of sanctions would improve the monitoring of patterns and trends and the effectiveness of the measure used. The four requirements and two recommendations raised at the previous inspection have been met. The registered manager has introduced new reporting and recording systems, and these are now used and embedded into practice. The registered manager has reviewed the home’s locality assessment, and this now includes all known potential risks in the local area and the response time of emergency services. The registered manager is exceptionally good at seeking opportunities for staff to research practice and develop new skills. Since the previous inspection, staff have learned about the impact on children of using institutional language and have

developed their skills in total communication. In addition, staff are provided with regular and meaningful supervision. Team meetings are well attended; they provide staff with good opportunities to reflect on their practice and to share their learning from training courses.
