n The childminder is not able to evidence that she holds a valid paediatric first-aid certificate. n The childminder demonstrates her ability to assess and minimise risks to children indoors, outdoors and on outings. She keeps her knowledge of child protection refreshed through regular training. She has suitable safeguarding policies and procedures ready to follow if she has concerns about a child. n Suitable ways to exchange information with parents and other settings that children attend are ready for use. These include using an 'All about me' booklet to help to gather information about children's needs and interests before they start. The childminder explains how she intends to use this information to meet children's care and health needs and to help children to feel emotionally safe and secure. disabilities. n The childminder's procedures to evaluate her practice are not fully effective. However, she meets with other childminders, attends some local authority meetings and reads a childminding magazine. This enables her to stay updated on childcare issues and provides her with ideas to improve her practice. For example, she is making a mud kitchen from pallets and dog bowls containing sand and mud to enhance the outdoor provision. n Since the last inspection, the childminder has addressed the recommendations raised. She explains suitable ways to support children's language development and to raise their awareness of healthy eating. In addition to reading stories and singing, she understands how to allow extra time for younger children to think about what they want to say. Through training, the childminder has gained an ability to use puppets to help children to communicate, particularly about their

emotions and how to behave well. The childminder demonstrates an awareness of how to provide opportunities for children to talk about healthy eating. For example, she talks about children helping to prepare and taste fruit and vegetables. n The childminder is keen to make use of the local area to develop children's understanding of the natural world and their local community. For example, she has previously taken children to a local nature area for events such as 'muddy puddle day' or for forest school activities led by another childminder. She understands how to use opportunities, such as these, to help children to build on their social skills and interact with other children in preparation for starting school. n The childminder understands the learning and development requirements of the early years foundation stage. She explains suitable ways to check what children know and can do and to identify what children need to learn next. She has

15 January 2020 There were no children present when this inspection took place. The findings in this report are based on evidence gathered from discussions with those who care for the children and an inspection of the premises, equipment and relevant documentation. Where there are no children present, no judgement is made on the quality of the early years provision as there is no reliable evidence on which to assess its impact on children. The report states whether the provider continues to meet the requirements of registration.
