p.1

The provision is good

The childminder is kind, friendly and welcoming. She provides a stimulating environment with a wide range of resources and toys. Children settle securely in the childminder's care, where they develop their confidence and eagerly explore. Before they start attending, the childminder gathers information from parents about children's care and learning needs. The childminder is a very positive role model and children behave well. Children develop a strong sense of responsibility in the setting. For example, they tidy away their toys before mealtimes and before they play outdoors.

p.2

The provision is good

Children develop a good understanding of mathematical language and use this as they describe what they are doing in their play. Children start to recognise numerals and count items as they play. Children really enjoy outdoor activities and develop good physical skills. They climb steps to use the slide and confidently use the swings and wheeled toys. Children enjoy exploring a winter-themed interest tray. They identify and remember the names of penguins, polar bears and tinsel. They sprinkle artificial snow on the animals and press the snow into moulds to make small shapes, which supports the development of their small-muscle skills.

n The childminder understands how to manage her workload and that of her assistant. She discusses her co-childminder's workload with him and supports any training he may need. The childminder also meets up with other childminders to exchange ideas and further develop her practice. She and her assistants take regular breaks from childminding to ensure that they are well rested. n The childminder is effective in helping children to develop their communication and language skills. She engages them in meaningful conversations to extend their listening and speaking skills. However, on occasions, the childminder does not consistently give children enough opportunities to explore their creative ideas. n The childminder has high expectations for all children. Children put together words as they play and eagerly join in with action songs and rhyme sessions. Children use musical percussion instruments to keep in time with their singing

They develop a good awareness of how to stay safe and live a healthy lifestyle. Children have frequent opportunities to play outdoors in a variety of settings, including local parks and woodland. This helps to promote their physical well-being effectively. n The childminder forms very effective partnerships with parents and keeps them

9 January 2020 updated about their child's progress. For example, the childminder shares children's assessments with their parents and has daily discussions with them as they collect their child. Parents feel involved in their children's learning and comment very positively about the childminder. The chilminder invites parents to social meetings at the premises, where they can meet other parents and share in the activities their children enjoy. n The childminder gathers information from children's parents before they start attending. She observes and monitors children's learning and play regularly. However, the childminder does not fully use the assessments to provide optimum challenge and help every child make even more progress in their learning.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a secure understanding of the safeguarding policies and can identify the possible signs that indicate a child is at risk of harm. She is also aware of wider safeguarding matters and any signs that may indicate that a child is at risk of being exposed to extreme views. She and her co-childminder understand the procedures to follow if they need to report any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder follows safe recruitment processes to check the suitability of assistants. To ensure children's safety, she makes certain that they are well supervised while they play, and carries out a comprehensive risk assessment of the premises and places that the children visit. The childminder regularly updates her safeguarding knowledge through training. She helps children learn about keeping themselves safe. For example, with the childminder, they practise how to quickly leave the premises in the event of an emergency.
