p.1
The provision requires improvement
Children have positive relationships with the childminder and enjoy their time in her care. The childminder has made effective changes to how she supervises children and identifies any risks in her home. This helps ensure children can now play safely in a welcoming environment. Children are confident and feel secure. The childminder is calm and attentive. She guides children gently and offers reassurance and praise. She has high expectations of children and they behave well. They help tidy the table before snack time and happily share out the play dough, so they each have the same amount.
p.2
The provision requires improvement
The childminder knows the children well and provides a varied range of experiences for them, based on their interests or a topic or theme. Children enjoy activities. They eagerly ask for the play dough and become engrossed as they mould shapes with their hands and use tools. The childminder has improved some aspects of how she assesses children's development. However, she still does not make enough use of her assessments to carefully plan activities based on what children need to learn next. This affects how quickly children make progress. In addition, the childminder does not work as closely as possible with parents and other providers to extend children's learning at home and in other settings they attend.
p.2
need to do better?
n The childminder has made a number of improvements since the last inspection, which have helped raise the quality of the provision. She has made use of the support of her local authority adviser to review and evaluate her practice. She is motivated to continue to make further improvements and aspires to provide children with the best possible care and learning. n Overall, the childminder has a secure understanding of children's stage of development and their needs. She now ensures clear arrangements for observing and assessing children's progress are in place. However, the next steps she identifies for children's learning are too general and do not build precisely enough on what they already know and can do. n The childminder has interesting and imaginative ideas for activities. For instance, children were excited to explore an inviting tray of red rice with Chinese utensils. However, she does not always have a clear idea of what she would like

individual children to learn from an activity. She does not make enough use of what she knows about children to plan experiences that fully extend their capabilities and help them make consistently good progress. n There are positive relationships between the childminder and parents. The childminder talks to parents daily and offers a written account of their children's day. She provides some information about activities and children's development.

need to do better?
8 January 2020 However, she does not share as much as she could about children's progress and next steps, to help parents continue their child's learning at home. n The childminder finds out about some of the activities that children take part in at the other early years settings they attend. However, she has not established a regular two-way flow of information with the other settings, to help ensure a shared approach to children's learning and care. n Children gain some useful skills for their future learning. They become more independent. They find their own shoes to go outside and are eager to wash their hands before they eat. The childminder talks to them as they play and encourages them to practise saying new or difficult words. Children demonstrate good physical skills as they roll dough into sausage shapes with their hands and confidently scoop colourful rice into containers. n Children show positive attitudes to learning and they play well together. The

childminder supports their personal development well. For instance, she has helped children learn about how to behave safely on outings and they understand why they need to stay close to her at all times. n The childminder reflects on her practice and has begun to monitor the provision more closely. She is careful to make sure that required records are available. She has completed mandatory training courses, such as first aid. However, she does not make use of other professional development opportunities, to help her further improve her practice and raise the quality of teaching to a consistently good level.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder has improved her knowledge and understanding of how to safeguard children and promote their welfare. She is confident about what to do if there is an allegation against her or a household member. She understands how to recognise possible signs of abuse or neglect and how to report any child protection concerns. The childminder completes thorough risk assessments of her home and garden and makes sure any hazards are quickly removed. She makes sure children are supervised closely at all times, to help ensure their safety.
