p.1

The provision is outstanding

The childminder provides an exceptionally warm and welcoming environment in which children become remarkably independent and exceptionally motivated learners. Toddlers and babies engross themselves in their self-initiated play. They make discoveries and test out their ideas extremely attentively. For example, toddlers independently fill buckets of water using a water butt and make puddles. They work out that more water makes the puddles bigger and confidently use their increasing vocabularies to communicate their findings. Babies explore the puddles by splashing with their hands and learn the word 'splat', following the childminder's high-quality interventions.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

Children demonstrate a great sense of belonging. They respond to the pictures of themselves that are displayed around the setting with glee, merrily discussing the experiences they have enjoyed. The childminder uses exceedingly effective settling systems to ensure children quickly develop bonds with her and to help them develop their confidence. Children display an overwhelming sense of security as they make choices and play intently.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

The childminder is remarkably passionate about providing the best possible experiences for the children. This shines through in her interactions with toddlers and babies. She evokes in children a wonderful sense of awe and wonder about their learning. This is evident when they show immense curiosity and excitement as she cuts open a melon to see what is inside. Toddlers gasp when it opens and eagerly use their own tools to help remove the seeds.

n The childminder successfully ensures that children develop high levels of independence. She expertly uses age-appropriate strategies to involve children in their own care from an early age. For example, babies already understand which drinking cup belongs to them and fetch it by themselves, while toddlers confidently use cutlery to feed themselves. Toddlers understand and confidently follow the consistent routines installed by the childminder. They demonstrate this as they wash their hands before mealtimes and eagerly join in with songs about handwashing. n Children have wonderful opportunities to develop positive attitudes towards nutritious foods. This is evident when children respond to the childminder's extremely relaxed and positive attempts to get them to taste new foods at mealtimes. The childminder provides children with excellent experiences that help them to understand where food comes from. For example, they frequently

spend time at an allotment where they plant and harvest a range of fruit and vegetables.

9 January 2020 n The childminder uses fantastic teaching skills to support children's progress. Babies and toddlers respond brilliantly to her interventions. For example, when babies babble, she consistently reinforces the sounds they make and models the correct words over and over, until babies start to form the word more coherently. She skilfully extends toddlers' vocabulary by adding new words as she repeats back their comments. As a result, children start to describe the objects they label. The childminder continually makes learning language enjoyable. This includes by bringing songs and rhymes into play frequently. n Parents take a huge role in children's learning. The childminder strongly empowers them to understand fully how they can continue learning at home in a highly consistent manner. This includes by giving worthy tips on how to help children achieve their next steps and by sharing the interesting information she

learns from training. The childminder uses her exceedingly strong partnerships with parents to help her build an extensive understanding of each child's backgrounds, interests and experiences so far. She uses this meticulously to ensure she understands every child's individual needs and understands fully the progress they make. n The childminder demonstrates an immense drive to continue to enhance and develop her practice. She reflects diligently on the effectiveness of her practice and takes incisive action to improve further. For example, she has strengthened her systems for establishing starting points for children by including parents more greatly when she assesses what children already know and what they can do. The childminder eagerly enhances her knowledge and skills by carrying out research and by attending meaningful training sessions. She has recently learned more about how children's brains develops and now considers how to

optimise their potential for learning. This includes by ensuring children are as relaxed and happy as they can be. n Children's home lives and backgrounds are celebrated enthusiastically. Children learn what makes them unique in an age-appropriate manner. For example, toddlers look at photos of each other's extended families. Children have rich and meaningful experiences that help them to learn about communities beyond their own. For instance, they have visited different people, including residents in a nursing home and a shepherdess who helped them to find out about sheep.
