p.1
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
This home was judged good at the last full inspection. At the interim inspection, Ofsted judges that it has sustained effectiveness.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Suitable action has been taken to address one of the requirements made at the previous inspection. The registered manager has submitted to Ofsted a copy of the quality of care review report within regulatory timescales. This ensures that the regulator has a clear oversight of the home and any actions the manager intends to make to improve the service.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
A further requirement was made at the previous inspection in relation to the home providing a welcoming environment and damage caused by the young person being repaired quickly. The manager has frequently escalated requests to the maintenance team for repairs within the home to be completed quickly and to a suitable standard. However, the organisation has failed to ensure that damage is repaired effectively throughout the home.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The young person has lived at the home since the last inspection. The relationships between staff and the young person are very positive. The young person told the inspectors that they are listened to by staff and that staff help them to sort their problems. For example, the young person’s wishes to increase contact with their family was agreed and this has now been implemented to take place every other month.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Staff have a good understanding of the young person’s behaviour. The staff team receives regular guidance in team meetings from a mental health practitioner in how to support the young person to develop their emotional resilience. This has progressed well and has enabled the young person to make positive choices about risk-taking behaviour. For example, since the last inspection, there has been a reduction in physical intervention, physical aggression towards others and self-harm. Damage in the home has also significantly reduced.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Since moving to the home, the young person has not been reported as missing. The young person has built up trust with the staff team and has progressed in terms of age-appropriate independence, for example the young person catches the bus to and from school daily, they have time to see friends locally and spend their pocket money at local shops. This is monitored well by the manager, which meets the independence needs of the young person.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The staff team uses regular, planned individual placement sessions to build on the young person’s self-esteem and confidence. This has encouraged the young person to feel comfortable to plan horse riding lessons, singing lessons and to go out on activities such as swimming. This shows good progression, as previously the young person has refused to take part in activities and to socialise with others regularly. Inspection report children’s home: SC456857 3 The team has started a memory book to capture these achievements and memories for the young person to keep as a reminder of their time in the home.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The young person continues to enjoy school and the routine associated with this. The young person sustains a full-time placement and their attendance is very good. Staff have a good relationship with teaching staff at the school. The young person’s education, health and care plan has not been updated for almost two years. The manager has raised this shortfall with the virtual school and the special educational needs coordinator at several meetings. However, this has not been escalated by the manager as a concern to senior managers to ensure that the plan is reviewed at the earliest opportunity to meet the needs of the young person.
p.3
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The team members are experienced and committed to the stability and security of the young person. They are led by a child-centred manager, who has a very good understanding of the young person and the risks they present. The manager monitors risk assessments well, ensuring that they are accurate and clear in their expectations to safeguard the young person. The manager has a very good relationship with professionals working with the young person and the social worker’s internal feedback about the placement is very positive.
