The provision is good
Children are happy and excited when attending the setting. They eagerly tell the childminder what they have been doing since they last saw her. The childminder is ambitious for children's progress and supports their learning effectively. She helps children to remember what they have done already and to build on this knowledge. Her questioning is very effective as it stimulates children's curiosity and develops their critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. For example, when children talk about jelly being 'sloppy', the childminder asks why jelly is like this. Children respectfully and excitedly come up with different ideas. They demonstrate good manners and communication skills that will support them in their next steps in education. Children become confident, secure and develop good self-esteem. They are familiar with the routines. They are able to complete certain tasks independently and know what is expected of them. Children are eager to learn and

engage in activities, and the childminder includes them in making decisions about the activities they can do. This helps children learn to make compromises and to understand that everyone's voice needs to be heard.

need to do better?
n The childminder is a positive role model for the children. She displays a love for the local community, a passion for learning and has good manners. This has a positive impact on children, who become aware of the wider world and the people around them. They learn about the different places in their neighbourhood and the behaviour that is expected of them, such as being calm and quiet in the library. n The childminder gathers information from parents during the settling-in period to help her to get to know the children and families. She liaises effectively with the parents and other settings to help children receive continuity in their care and learning. She regularly shares information about children's learning and development in her setting. n The childminder plans a variety of activities and resources to meet children's abilities and interests and to help them reach the next steps in their learning.

need to do better?
However, the organisation of the indoor learning environment makes it difficult for children to access additional resources when they need them. n All children make good progress and develop a positive attitude towards learning. Children develop good physical skills and an understanding of the world around them. The childminder takes regular walks with the children, which helps to develop their physical stamina and a liking of their natural environment. Children who struggle to concentrate for long are encouraged effectively during group activities, such as creating artwork, where everyone shares their ideas. They feel a sense of belonging and confidently ask for additional resources. They develop good communication and social skills.

need to do better?
7 November 2019 n The childminder keeps herself up to date through various training opportunities. She attends courses with specific themes of interest, such as how to promote positive behaviour. This helps her to continually evaluate and develop her practice. n Children become increasingly independent and develop their self-care skills, such as taking off their jackets and hanging them on the pegs as they arrive at the childminder's home. The childminder prepares home-made meals for the children, which are healthy and balanced. This helps children to learn where food comes from. For example, the childminder grows a variety of fruits and vegetables with them, which the children enjoy tasting. However, the childminder does not consistently ensure that children follow good hygiene procedures and help them to understand the importance of these.
p.2
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder is fully aware of her role and responsibilities in safeguarding children. She risk assesses the environment effectively to ensure that it is safe and secure for children. She ensures children are safe on outings and teaches them about road safety, making them aware of the risks around them and how to minimise these. She regularly refreshes her safeguarding knowledge to help her to gain an understanding of wider safeguarding issues. She is alert to when a child may be at risk of harm and knows the relevant agencies to contact to protect children's welfare.
p.3
should:
n offer more consistent support for children to learn about healthy lifestyles, especially the importance of hand washing n improve the indoor learning environment to ensure that children can more easily access resources during planned activities.
