children and young people since the most recent full inspection
At this inspection, the service was not judged. Camp Whizz-Kidz has ceased running holiday schemes due to the loss of funding. No children have been accepted for the holiday scheme since September 2017. The organisation has made the decision that camps will not be run for the foreseeable future. Due to the current circumstances, it was agreed that an interim inspection could be undertaken, and no judgement made. It was, therefore, concluded that the inspection would be undertaken via a telephone discussion. A discussion was held on 10 December 2019 with the responsible individual, who is the former registered manager. The responsible individual holds a management role within safeguarding and clinical services . The organisation has continued to provide non-residential services to children. The focus is on services which have the maximum impact and that can reach the largest number of children. In relation to numbers and impact, the organisation has

Since the last interim inspection, camps have continued to run in Scotland due to separate funding arrangements. There are no plans to run camps or residential services for children in England. The responsible individual explained that the organisation will need to make a decision about its Ofsted registration. The registered manager post remains vacant. Future camps are dependent on securing appropriate funding. If the organisation wishes to remain registered, it will remain subject to an annual inspection.

Whizz-Kidz is a national charity, founded in 1990 to address the unmet need for mobility equipment provision for disabled children and young people living throughout the UK. Camp Whizz-Kidz is a three-day, two-night residential life skills camp designed for young wheelchair users aged between 12 and 25 years. The organisation offers various camps at a selection of accessible venues throughout England. There are 10 to 15 participants at each camp of mixed abilities, who are invited to attend irrespective of gender. Camps are currently suspended due to funding issues.

Information about this inspection
Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences of children attending the residential holiday scheme. Inspectors considered whether the work of the residential holiday scheme is founded on safe care and individualised support. They watched how professional staff work with children and young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care provided. Wherever possible, they talked to children and young people and their families. In addition, the inspectors have tried to understand what the residential holiday scheme knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children. This inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service and to consider how well it complies with The Residential Holiday Schemes for Disabled Children (England) Regulations 2013 and the National Minimum Standards.
