need to do better?
n The quality of teaching is exceptional. The childminder skilfully engages children in learning. Children are highly confident, motivated and excited to learn. Children's speech is a very strong focus. They learn rhyming words. Skilful use of phonics and how to form words helps children to develop their early literacy skills. Some children already start to spell and can recognise words. They enthuse as they take part in the 'silly soup' game. Children rhyme 'bat' with 'hat' and 'box' with 'socks'. They beam with excitement as they stir the new objects into the soup and sing the song. n Assessment is very accurate. The childminder's excellent knowledge of each child leads to a curriculum that is broad and invigorating. Next steps are precise. They target what it is that children need to learn next to be highly successful in their learning. Partnerships with parents are strong. They report positively about

the high levels of care and learning their children receive. n The 'wow cloud' is an excellent rewards system. Children who are kind, share or behave well receive recognition for their good behaviour. This helps children to develop high levels of self-esteem. They choose a shape, and their kind act, such as sharing, is written on this. It is then placed on the larger cloud. They smile with the recognition of helping each other. Children learn about tolerance and respect for each other and about being kind to animals. Their behaviour is exceptional. n Children become independent in their personal care needs. The childminder supports children to 'have a go'. Children are highly successful, and most can

18 December 2019 put on their own outdoor clothes. Children are afforded time to succeed. They are not rushed and work hard to help themselves. Good support is on hand, if needed. Children can put on shoes, coats and playsuits. They find their wellington boots and put them on before going outdoors. n A rich, healthy diet supports children's good health. They plant and grow vegetables in the garden during the year. These are used at lunchtimes. A superb range of physical activities gives children opportunities to build their large- and small-muscle skills. They run and climb on equipment, balance on the wooden bridge, and reach the top of the wooden frame. They handle scissors well and cut the spinach. Children think about what is a 'shiny leaf' that 'has holes'. They select the ones with holes for the compost heap. The shiny ones are for the lunch. They wash their hands regularly throughout the day. n Weekly webinars keep the childminder's knowledge up to date. She is proactive

in seeking out ways to continually improve the quality of care and learning for the children attending. She acknowledges that children may not always experience our diverse society. Children visit different places. They explore a range of traditions and cultures to widen their own experiences. This helps them to develop an understanding of the value of all people.

Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder keeps her child protection training up to date. She has a strong understanding of the signs and symptoms that may indicate that a child is more vulnerable to risk of abuse. The childminder is very familiar with the procedures to follow in the event of a concern about a child in her care. She has a very good understanding of how to keep children safe. Daily assessments of the premises mean that she is able to identify and minimise any risks. This means that children play safely in the environment.

n The inspector had a tour of the premises with the childminder, and took account of how risk assessments are effective in reducing risks to children in the environment. n An observation of a planned activity was evaluated with the childminder. This considered the quality of teaching and the impact this has on children's learning. n A sample of documentation was viewed at the inspection. This included evidence of suitability checks on adults living/working at the premises. The inspector also saw a selection of policies, procedures and children's records that support the safe and effective management of the childcare. n The inspector spoke to children, the childminder and the co-childminder during the inspection.
