Inspection report for children‟s home - monitoring visit: SC025799 1 SC025799

p.1

Ingleside Children’s Home Limited

Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework

p.1

Information about this children’s home

The home is privately owned and is registered to provide care and accommodation for up to seven children and young people. The home’s statement of purpose states that it is a home for young people who have special educational needs, mild learning disabilities, emotional and behavioural difficulties, autistic spectrum disorder or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The manager has been registered with Ofsted since 2017.

p.1

This monitoring visit

This children’s home was judged inadequate at the full inspection on 9 October 2019. Following that inspection, a compliance notice was served on the home on 17 October 2019. This monitoring visit was to check the actions taken by the provider to meet this compliance notice. This is the first monitoring visit to check compliance with this notice. The provider was required to address one compliance notice by 30 November 2019. This related to the items below: Failure to comply with Regulation 13, the leadership and management standard. (1) The leadership and management standard is that the registered person enables, inspires and leads a culture in relation to the children’s home that— (a) helps children aspire to fulfil their potential; and (b) promotes their welfare. (2) In particular, the standard in paragraph (1) requires the registered person to— (a) lead and manage the home in a way that is consistent with the approach and

(h) use monitoring and review systems to make continuous improvements in the quality of care provided in the home.

p.2

This monitoring visit

This monitoring visit concluded that the provider has not yet met the compliance notice. Leaders and managers have an action plan in place to address the compliance notice. However, while some of the points of the compliance notice have been met, other points remain unmet. The responsible individual acknowledged that, while some progress has been made, the compliance notice has not been met. Leaders and managers are planning continuing action to address the compliance notice in full. The home’s action plan has been shared with the whole staff team and the young people’s placing authorities. To help address the concerns and requirements raised at the last inspection, the home’s responsible individual is now supported by two external professionals. In addition, the responsible individual has recruited two interim deputy managers to help support the registered manager to meet all of the requirements. A recruitment

programme is underway to fill staff vacancies. Leaders and managers have met four of the requirements set at the last inspection. However, a further two requirements have resulted from this monitoring inspection. The home environment has improved. Maintenance in the home is ongoing. The wasp nest has been removed from the roof. Redecoration of the communal areas has created a homelier atmosphere. Since the last inspection, the young people’s overall experiences in the home have improved. They have been able to make use of the repaired internet connection in the home. The young people are also enjoying the reintroduction of takeaway meals after their weekly meetings. They have also enjoyed a paintballing event and Halloween and Diwali parties in the home. Leaders and managers have introduced incentive and reward charts for the young people, to help encourage positive behaviour in the home and in the community.
