p.1
The provision is good
Children are happy, safe and clearly enjoy being in the setting. They are well cared for by the childminder, who wants the best for them. Children are very confident in their surroundings. They move around and make decisions about their play. For example, children initiate role play with dolls, explore early technology and choose books to read. They build good relationships with other children when they attend groups. Children gain an understanding of how to share and take turns. They have lots of opportunities to go out and about and discover things about the world in which they live. For example, children visit the library, parks, nature areas and farms. They participate in a wide range of activities outside of the setting, which extends their learning further.
p.2
The provision is good
Children make good progress from their different starting points and become well prepared for future learning. They grow in independence and are keen to have a go at doing things for themselves. The childminder creates a happy learning environment. Children behave well. They know that their opinions and preferences are valued and that they will be listened to.

need to do better?
n Since her previous inspection, the childminder has sought and acted upon advice from the local authority and her childminding colleagues. The changes that she has made have led to a significant improvement in the quality of education. The childminder is keen to keep improving so that she can give children the best possible start in their education. To do this, she recognises the importance of evaluating her practice alongside continuing with her professional development. n The childminder knows what she wants children to learn and understand. For the most part, she plans activities so that children build on what they already know and can do. For instance, children benefit from well-chosen activities to promote their early skills for writing. However, on occasions, the childminder misses opportunities to extend their learning even further. For example, during a craft activity, children are not encouraged to count the number of baubles on

their card, despite them identifying that there are 'lots'. n Children's communication and language are promoted well. They are introduced to new ideas, words and sounds through stories, songs and rhymes. Children join in enthusiastically with the words and actions to favourites such as 'Miss Polly had a Dolly'. They display good self-esteem as they proudly reward themselves with a round of applause. Children develop in confidence and are keen to express their thoughts and wishes. n The childminder teaches children how to listen carefully. For example, she encourages them to use musical instruments to accompany their singing. The childminder talks to them about different volumes and patterns as they bang the

4 December 2019 drums and shake the maracas. n The childminder monitors children's progress. She completes the progress check for children aged between two and three years and documents this appropriately. Where concerns in children's development are identified, the childminder works closely with parents to address these. For example, she encourages them to share the advice that they receive from speech and language therapists. The childminder then follows this to help children catch up quickly. n Overall, partnerships with parents are good. Parents speak positively about the care that their children receive. They say their children are happy and that they improve in their development, particularly their speech. Since the previous inspection, more information is exchanged about children's learning at home and in the setting. However, the childminder has not explored additional ways to develop these partnerships even further.

need to do better?
n Documentation required for the safe and efficient management of the setting is in place and kept appropriately. Required information is provided to Ofsted so that checks can be completed to determine the suitability of people living on the premises.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder knows children and their families very well. She fully recognises how important children's welfare and safety are. Child protection training is prioritised and completed as required. The childminder is alert for warning signs that suggest a child could be being harmed. She knows what to do if she is concerned. The childminder routinely assesses and manages risks to keep children safe. She is vigilant in her home environment and during outings.
