The provision is good

Children are cared for in a safe, clean, family environment. The children form a close attachment to the childminder, who is very caring and attentive. They enjoy cuddles during story time, which provide reassurance and comfort. The childminder uses her home well to provide learning opportunities for the children. Children are encouraged to be independent by making decisions about their play. They learn to manage their own personal health needs, such as washing their hands, and quickly become independent in readiness for school. The childminder plans many interesting experiences and activities. For example, children take part in making cookies and baking cakes. The childminder provides nutritious home-cooked meals which the children enjoy. Children excitedly talk about what they see from the garden including aeroplanes, birds and other animals. She teaches them to recognise the letters in their names. They go on walks to the local library and learn

how to borrow and return books. The children also go to playgroup to engage with other children in the community. The children behave well and show that they enjoy their time with the childminder. She is consistent in her approach and is a good role model for the children. For example, they are encouraged to say 'please' and 'thank you'.

n The childminder provides a curriculum that focuses on children's individual learning needs. Children make good progress as the childminder makes learning fun. They are excited to join in with the activities she plans for them around the weekly themes. Children have developed a love of reading and enjoy story time with the childminder. n The childminder makes mathematics fun and children enjoy counting and recognising numbers. For example, they eagerly used pegs to match the number of whiskers on the face of a cardboard kitten. The childminder makes good use of a wall calendar to introduce days of the week and months of the year, to identify different seasons in the year and to talk about the weather. n The childminder celebrates different cultures through planned weekly themes, such as 'Black History Week' and 'Chinese New Year'. She takes the children to visit the local library to borrow books related to the weekly theme. Parents are

also encouraged to take part and celebrate. However, opportunities to learn about people who are different from themselves are limited in other respects. n Children enjoy regular trips out to local playgroups to meet with other children. They also enjoy play and explore the garden. For example, they enjoy going on the slide and swings and play football and basketball. The childminder recognises the benefit of playing outdoors, and how this supports the children's physical development. n The childminder ensures that statutory training is completed, however, she does

Safeguarding

She works well with other professionals. This supports her to ensure children's safety at all times while they are in her care.
