Moves into and from the home are managed well. The child who recently moved in shared with the inspector that they are very happy and like the adults in the home. A school placement has already been identified for the child and the headmaster was at the home to meet the child during this inspection. The manager was a strong advocate for the child and frequently met with education professionals to ensure the best possible outcome on behalf of the child. Staff help children well to prepare for adulthood. The manager and staff have supported one child to access a personalised, local authority-funded college placement of his choice. The child has consistently attended and there is close monitoring and support of this provision. In addition, staff have assisted the child to gain part-time employment. individual holidays to requested locations including Snowdonia National Park zip wiring and trampolining in caves, as well as a holiday to Cornwall. Staff ensure that children participate in different hobbies including scouts, attending the gym and youth club. Consequently, children develop their social skills and sense of well-being. Complaints are managed well. There has been one complaint made since the last inspection and a concern raised about staff practice in the home. The manager ensured that robust action was taken and ensured that all parties were consulted to rectify the matter to the highest standard. Investigations are exceptionally thorough with disciplinary procedures followed properly. The manager has provided strong oversight through staff supervision.

Information about this inspection
Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children and young people. Inspectors considered the quality of work and the differences made to the lives of children and young people. They watched how professional staff work with children and young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care provided. Wherever possible, they talked to children and young people and their families. In addition, the inspectors have tried to understand what the children’s home knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children and young people whom it is trying to help, protect and look after.
