p.1
The provision is inadequate
Children's safety is compromised. The childminder has not followed the correct procedures with Ofsted to ensure the suitability of her two assistants, who have worked with her for 18 months. She has failed to provide Ofsted with the relevant information about these people to enable appropriate suitability checks to be completed. In addition, the assistants have regularly been left in sole charge of minded children, with parents' consent, in the childminder's absence. The assistants' safeguarding knowledge is not robust.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Children do not consistently receive the same high-quality teaching from the assistants as they do from the qualified and experienced childminder. The assistants occasionally miss opportunities to fully engage with the children and to stretch and challenge their thinking.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Despite this, children are happy and content in the childminder and her assistants' care. They move confidently around the playrooms within the childminder's home and know her daily routines well. Children are very independent and articulate their feelings with confidence. They ask for help when they need it and attempt new tasks with the support of the childminder and her assistants.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder has comprehensive systems in place to help her to track and monitor children's progress. She seeks appropriate support and interventions where she identifies any gaps in children's learning.

need to do better?
n The childminder has not notified Ofsted of changes to her assistants or provided Ofsted with the relevant information to enable suitability checks to be undertaken. The childminder has also left the assistants in sole charge of minded children in her absence, without confirmation of their suitability. n The childminder is highly qualified and experienced and delivers teaching at a high standard. She coaches and trains her assistants, for example through regular supervision meetings. However, the childminder does not support her assistants effectively to ensure their quality of teaching is consistently strong. n Children enjoy participating in a wide and varied range of learning opportunities, indoors and outdoors. The childminder uses the information she knows about the children to plan activities that are tailored to their individual learning needs, likes and interests. For example, when children are interested in dinosaurs, she

plans activities around a dinosaur theme to capture and engage them. n Children's speech and language skills are promoted effectively by the childminder. She speaks clearly to children and provides them with a good

The childminder and her assistants model language well and introduce new words into the children's vocabulary. n Children are provided with good opportunities to learn about other people's differing cultures and beliefs. For example, they learn about a wide range of festivals and special occasions that people celebrate. Children have opportunities to develop a deep understanding of the needs of others who are less fortunate than them. For example, the childminder encourages older children to collect and make items that will help homeless people. n Children participate in exciting outdoor activities. For example, they visit local woods to make dens, go to parks and use public transport. The childminder makes very good use of spontaneous learning opportunities. For example, when road works are happening in nearby roads, she takes children to watch and

speak to the construction workers. n Partnerships with parents and others are very strong. Parents who provide the childminder with written feedback on her provision comment on the exciting range of activities their children participate in. They thank the childminder for the individual support she provides for their families. The childminder encourages parents to play an active role in their children's learning. She shares relevant information with them through an online system and verbally. n The childminder and her assistants develop their childcare knowledge through, for example, regular training events. The childminder is also a member of a local group of childminders who meet regularly to update their knowledge and share good practice. n Children develop strong bonds with the childminder and her assistants. They behave well and understand how to be kind and caring towards each other. The childminder and her assistants re-enforce the simple rules, such as 'kind hands',

Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder's failure to notify Ofsted and provide relevant information to enable them to check the suitability of her two assistants compromises children's safety and well-being. In addition, the assistants do not demonstrate a secure knowledge of some of the procedures to follow if an allegation is made against one of them. They do not demonstrate a good understanding of indicators that might suggest a family was being radicalised or drawn into terrorism. The childminder has secure knowledge of safeguarding and demonstrates a good understanding of the action she should take if she was concerned about a child's welfare. The childminder and her assistants regularly update their safeguarding knowledge, for example through training.
