p.1

The provision is good

Children benefit from a well-organised learning environment that gives them easy access to books and resources of their choosing. The childminder aims to provide children with highly engaging learning experiences that support their curiosity and love of exploration. She creates visually stimulating displays for children that help showcase the awe and wonder of the natural world. Children enjoy feeling the smoothness of conkers, the spines of model hedgehogs and the crunchy texture of autumn leaves.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder has high expectations of children's behaviour and learning. Children are polite, anticipate daily routines, understand what is expected of them and have positive attitudes to learning. They respect and value each other, and their behaviour is good. They enjoy their time spent with the childminder. Children demonstrate their affection and happiness as they smile broadly while exchanging hugs and cuddles with her.

p.2

The provision is good

Children demonstrate through their energetic natures that they feel secure and safe in the childminder's care. They talk about their families and what they like to play with. Children are confident communicators. They talk and sing quietly to themselves during their imaginary play. Children join in with songs that play softly in the background at intervals during the day.

p.2

need to do better?

n The well-qualified childminder uses various strategies to help promote children's vocabulary. They benefit from hearing detailed descriptions as the childminder reads their favourite storybooks. Children are self-motivated as they imitate the childminder and pretend to read the books. They squeal with excitement when they hear their own words recorded on small voice recorders. n The childminder works closely with relevant agencies, when required. She regularly shares information with parents and provides help and advice for them, which helps to support children's learning at home. Parents supplied positive feedback for the purpose of the inspection. They appreciate the childminder's efforts and think of her as being part of their extended family. n Children benefit from regular opportunities to refine and extend their physical skills. The childminder takes children to local playgroups and soft-play areas,

where they develop their large-muscle skills. Children learn to manipulate small tools, such as tongs, scissors and spoons. The childminder supports children's emotional well-being as she praises their efforts and congratulates their achievements. n Children demonstrate good manners, empathy and a caring attitude towards others. They listen and follow instructions well. Children are guided by the kind

19 November 2019 interactions of the childminder. They are inquisitive and enthusiastically join in with new and favourite learning experiences. n The childminder helps children to acquire the knowledge and skills they need for their future life success. They develop a sense of belonging and learn about people in the community who help them. Children enjoy visits with the childminder to the local fire station and a nearby honey farm. n The childminder promotes all areas of learning effectively. She supports children's mathematical awareness well. Children concentrate intently as they confidently use scoops to fill and empty coloured test tubes with scented rice. They think about how full the test tubes are and count how many scoops of rice they need. Children freely express themselves outside through music and movement. The childminder has identified opportunities to enrich children's outdoor play even further. However, she has not yet fully implemented her plans

to enhance their outdoor learning experiences. n All groups of children make good progress and are well prepared for the next stages in their learning, including those in receipt of funded early education. The childminder gathers information from parents about each child's interests and learning styles. However, she does not always encourage parents effectively to share their views of her overall service. This means that parents are not consistently involved in the childminder's self-evaluation and her plans for continual improvement. n The childminder ensures that she keeps up to date with all mandatory training and refresher courses. She also explores areas of interest through self-directed study. This means that children benefit from professional knowledge and understanding that is current.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder ensures her home is kept secure indoors and outside. She identifies and minimises any potential hazards, which helps her to keep children safe while in her care. The childminder knows what to do in the event that she has concerns about a child's welfare. She is vigilant for any signs that could indicate that a child is being exposed to extreme views and beliefs. Children benefit from the close supervision of the childminder. She teaches children to be responsible for their own and others' safety, and to be especially gentle around babies.

p.3

should:

n encourage parents to consistently contribute to the process of self-evaluation n continue to implement plans to further enhance children's outdoor learning experiences.
