Part 3. Welfare, health and safety of pupils Paragraphs 7, 11, 12, 16, 32(1)(c) The school’s approach to safeguarding its pupils continues to meet the requirements of the independent school standards. The school’s policy reflects the latest statutory guidance issued by the Secretary of State and is published online. Staff at all levels are suitably trained, any concerns are raised quickly, and all referrals are thoroughly documented. Leaders have a strong understanding of the contextualised risks their pupils face. There is a culture of vigilance, and a shared commitment to keep pupils as safe from harm as possible. Leaders have suitably updated the school’s health and safety and risk assessment policies in the light of the new premises. These policies are implemented well. The fire safety system, equipment, logs and checks are suitable and confirmed in the school’s September 2019 risk assessment as compliant with the Regulatory Reform (Fire

Information about this school
BEP Academy is registered to admit up to 90 pupils between the ages of 13 and 16. It predominantly operates as an alternative provider. The majority of pupils attend on a dual-roll arrangement with their mainstream secondary schools. The school no longer operates for pupils from its premises at 10 Bridge Close, Romford RM7 0AU. The school does not make use of any alternative provision. The school’s first and most recent full standard inspection took place in November 2018, when overall effectiveness was judged to be good and all the independent school standards were judged to be met.

Information about this inspection
This was the school’s first material change inspection to consider its change of main premises. The inspector was asked to consider whether the school’s new premises comply with some of the requirements in Parts 3, 5 and 8 of the independent school standards. The inspection was announced with two days’ notice. There were no responses on Ofsted’s Parent View to consider as part of this inspection. The inspection was conducted with the organisation’s chief executive officer and principal. The inspector toured the new premises and considered a range of relevant documentation, such as policies, risk assessments and fire safety records.
