p.1
The provision is good
The childminder provides a home-from-home setting where children grow in confidence and form secure attachments. She introduces new words to children to build on their vocabulary. For example, the childminder talks about the 'grizzly' bear and the 'squelchy' mud as they read a story. She encourages children's interest in the story as she gives children props, such as a torch game, to help them to find the 'river', 'cave' and 'mud'.
p.2
The provision is good
The childminder sets high expectations for children and supports them to be independent and ready for school, when the time comes. She encourages children to use good manners and be respectful in their interactions. For example, children thank the childminder when she serves their lunch. She explains that they need to have 'gentle hands' when looking at the puppets and share the torch when playing a game. Children behave well and glow with pride as they show the childminder their painting. The childminder praises their efforts, building on their self-esteem.
p.2
The provision is good
Children feel safe and secure. The childminder helps them to learn how to keep safe. For example, she talks about how it can be dangerous to run indoors, and encourages children to tidy away toys once they have finished playing with them so that others do not trip over them.

need to do better?
n Partnerships with other settings that children attend are very good. The childminder regularly exchanges information about children's care and learning so that learning can be complemented. For example, the childminder is working on children's confidence to play with children of different ages. n The childminder knows children well and builds on what they know and can do to help them to make good progress in their learning. She tracks children's progress regularly to ensure that any gaps in their learning are closing quickly. n The childminder finds out about children's interests, and plans an exciting range of activities for them. For example, older children showed an interest in planting and growing. The childminder supported children to plant and nurture tomato plants and grow blueberries. Despite children's reluctance to eat these fruits previously, children enjoyed eating what they had grown.
p.2
need to do better?
n Children have a selection of 'songs of the week'. They choose which one to sing first and show delight as they use their hands to do the actions associated with the rhymes. They talk about their morning at nursery and sing a 'washing hands' song, so they become aware of how to wash their hands properly prior to eating. The childminder also reminds children about the importance of washing away the germs. n The childminder helps children to make connections in their learning. Children go

12 November 2019 on a bear hunt outdoors after listening to a story about a bear hunt and painting a picture. Children show delight as they find the bear. However, at times, the childminder offers solutions to simple problems that children encounter and occasionally does not give children enough time to think of other alternatives. n Funding is used well by the childminder, who takes children on many outings to places of interest to build on their experiences. The childminder has taken children strawberry picking, to museums and the safari park to help them to learn about the natural world and the world around them. She takes children to parks and soft-play centres, where children challenge their physical skills. n The childminder works well with parents. She completes daily diaries for parents of younger children so they know all about what their child has eaten, when they have slept and what they have been doing. She keeps a journal for each

Parents state that, 'The childminder is well organised, flexible and always has a plan for each day. She does whatever she can to support us.'

Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder attends regular safeguarding training to keep her knowledge current and has completed a designated leaders training course. She has a good knowledge of the signs to be concerned about in relation to child protection matters and wider safeguarding issues. She knows who to contact if she has any concerns about a child's well-being and she enforces a strict mobile phone policy with all members of the household. The childminder visually risk assesses her premises and outdoor area prior to children arriving, to help ensure their safety.
