p.1

The provision is inadequate

The childminder has not maintained the quality of her provision since the last inspection. Children's safety and security are not assured. The childminder does not take all reasonable steps to ensure children in her care are kept safe from harm. There are toxic substances and cleaning products easily accessible to children. In addition, the entrance to the premises is not secure and there is a risk of unauthorised access to the childminder's setting. The childminder does not have a secure understanding of the local children's services procedures to report concerns that she may have about children in her care. She does not keep a record of the hours that children attend at her setting. The childminder's understanding of the learning and development requirement is weak. She has not taken any action to improve her knowledge and understanding to help improve outcomes for children. Children are keen to learn. However, the childminder's understanding about what

The provision is inadequate

children know and need to learn next is weak. She does not plan activities that effectively target children's individual needs and interests, or challenge their learning. As a result, children do not make the progress that they are capable of. Overall, children's behaviour is managed appropriately. The childminder responds to disagreements, encouraging children to take turns and share.

n The childminder's systems of self-evaluation are weak. She does not identify or address weaknesses in her practice. The childminder does not have clear understanding of who to contact in the local children's services if she is concerned about a child in her care. Children's welfare and safety are not assured. n The childminder demonstrates poor management of her provision. She has failed to maintain a daily record of attendance of children in her care. The childminder has also not notified Ofsted of the birth of her baby. n The childminder has completed appropriate first-aid and safeguarding training. However, she has not sufficiently focused her personal development to help improve her knowledge and skills and raise the quality of her teaching to at least a good level. n The childminder has a weak understanding of the progress that children make and their development needs. She does not gather enough information from

parents about what children know and can do. The childminder does not use her observations of children or make accurate assessments of their progress to inform her planning for children's future learning. Children are not making the progress that they are capable of in readiness for school. n The childminder does not demonstrate high expectations for each child and what they can achieve. The quality of teaching is weak and very adult-led. The childminder does not recognise when children want to make decisions and lead

24 October 2019 their play. When children show an interest in an activity, she tries to distract them with another resource and then moves them away from their chosen activity. Children are not motivated to learn. n The childminder does not provide children with a suitable range of activities to engage and challenge them in learning. At times, children become bored or disruptive due to the lack of challenge and stimulation. n The childminder is friendly and provides children with warm interactions. She offers praise when children follow behaviour expectations. The childminder reminds children to share. She attends to children's care needs, such as nappy changing, appropriately. She shares information with parents effectively about children's day at the setting. This supports children's emotional security effectively.

p.2

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder knows the signs of abuse. However, she does not have a secure understanding the relevant agencies to contact for guidance and report concerns about children's welfare. The premises are not secure. The childminder does not carry out checks of the indoor environments to ensure they remain safe for children to use. Hazardous items are not stored appropriately and are in easy reach to children. This compromises children's safety.
