Inspection report for children‘s home – monitoring visit: SC378600 1 SC378600
p.1
Total Care Matters Ltd
Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The home is run by an independent provider. It is registered with Ofsted to provide care and accommodation for up to four children and young people between the ages of seven and 17 who may have social, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This monitoring visit was carried out to assess how staff manage young people’s behaviours and their ability to keep young people safe.
p.1
This monitoring visit
An interim inspection was carried out on 21 October 2019 and the home was judged to have declined in its effectiveness. Requirements set at this inspection remain in place.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Ofsted received further concerns on 25 October 2019 from external agencies about the ability of staff to manage young people’s behaviour and keep them safe. Additionally, Ofsted received a notification which raised similar concerns.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Ofsted contacted the registered provider on 25 October 2019 to ascertain how staff were keeping young people safe. The registered provider reviewed the staffing rotas to ensure that there were enough suitably experienced staff on duty to manage young people’s behaviours. Furthermore, clear plans were made for each young person.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This monitoring visit identified that there have been some improvements in the way staff manage young people’s behaviour. There have not been any further behavioural incidents and no further instances of police being called to support staff in the management of challenging behaviour. As a result, young people are safer. Inspection report for children‘s home – monitoring visit: SC378600 2 However, young people’s risk assessments have not been updated to reflect recent incidents. This does not ensure that new staff coming into the home have full and accurate information about how to meet young people’s needs and risks.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Improvements are needed in the recording of behaviour management records. Incident report forms are not always completed in line with the home’s policy. Furthermore, incident report forms do not always give a full and accurate account of events. This has the potential to affect how staff manage young people’s behaviours and keep them safe.
