p.1

The provision is good

The childminder creates an environment where mutual respect is at the heart of the provision. She values children's contributions and acts on their wishes. For instance, children have lots of choice, which promotes a positive sense of themselves.

p.2

The provision is good

Children are happy to arrive at the childminder's home. They are eager to take part in self-registration. They look for their name and work together with the childminder to record the day and date. This prepares children well for the next stage of their learning and school. The younger children are not fully encouraged to begin to recognise the letters in their names, or the sounds that represent letters.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder has high expectations for all children. She uses what she knows about children to help them gain more skills and knowledge. She has clear rules and boundaries, which children follow well.

p.2

The provision is good

Children display positive attitudes to their learning. They show excitement in joining in with adult-led activities. Children have a range of resources to choose from which are well organised and labelled. This encourages them to know where things are and be able to tidy them away when they have finished.

n The childminder has formed good relationships with the families that use her provision. This has enabled her to have a rounded knowledge of each child's life and home experiences. She uses this information effectively to build on the knowledge and skills children already have. On occasions, younger children are not fully encouraged to develop their early literacy skills. n All children are supported well. They have their emotional needs met through the strong attachments they have with the childminder. This enables them to settle well in the environment. n The childminder has high expectations of children. She promotes good manners and being polite. For example, children are encouraged to say 'please' and 'thank you', and to sit down when they eat their snacks. The childminder has a positive approach to managing children's behaviour. She supports children to learn how to understand and manage their emotions. She does this through

observing children and labelling their feelings. This reassures children that the childminder understands and helps them feel calm. n Children are motivated to learn. They eagerly take part in the activities provided by the childminder. For instance, children help to make dough. This does not allow them to think critically. n The childminder encourages children to lead a healthy lifestyle and make good choices. Children demonstrate this by selecting their chosen drink and healthy fruit. They use a visual chart so they can see what they have put in their body that day. The childminder encourages children to make their own choices, which helps them take responsibility. Children have the opportunity to play outdoors in the childminder's garden. The childminder also takes children out into the community, where they visit local parks and libraries. This enables children to learn about the world around them and have fresh air. This also provides them with opportunities to enhance their physical development as they play ball games and use the equipment in the park.

n The childminder acts with integrity. She ensures all children in her care have access to their full funding entitlement. She has a good knowledge of how to work with other professionals to provide continuity in children's care and education. The childminder provides a home-from-home approach. This encourages children to feel at ease and comfortable. The childminder has a good knowledge of the early years foundation stage. This, along with her natural way of teaching, offers children good-quality education. n Parents provide positive written feedback about the childminder. They comment that their children are happy and settled. They like the varied activities that are on offer and also like recreating these at home.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder demonstrates a sound knowledge of her safeguarding responsibilities. She has a good understanding of confidentiality and the importance of working with families. She knows the actions she would need to take in different situations, including if there was an allegation made about her.
