The provision is good
Children thoroughly enjoy their time with the kind and caring childminder. They are extremely well settled and brimming with confidence. For example, children eagerly and proudly invite the childminder to see what they are doing as they demonstrate new skills they have learned. The childminder is enthusiastic in her response. This greatly builds on children's feelings of self-worth and confidence and provides extremely firm foundations for children's motivation to learn. The childminder shows high expectations of children and what they can achieve. They are independent at every opportunity, further building on their confidence. Children's behaviour is exceptional. They play together in complete harmony and happily chant 'sharing is caring' as they take turns with resources. Children show a wonderful care and consideration for their younger peers. For example, children consider if the pumpkin face might scare the youngest child so decide to give it a

smile instead. Children enjoy a broad range of engaging activities, well matched to their interests. For example, children enjoy making dinosaur footprints with paint and going on dinosaur hunts. These activities promote their physical development and expressive arts and design.

need to do better?
n The childminder supports children's individual needs very well. She works closely with parents to ensure a collaborative approach to children's care and development. Allergies are discussed and managed very well and information relating to children's learning and achievements is shared with parents daily. Parents speak highly of the childminder and her provision, praising her for the 'love and care' she gives the children. n The childminder understands where children are in their learning. She uses her observations to identify where children need additional support and the skills they need to learn next. However, during some activities the childminder does not consistently build on these skills to help raise children's achievements to an even higher level. n The childminder provides very good support for children's all-round communication skills. She asks well-posed and open-ended questions that greatly encourage children's listening and thinking skills. She ensures less

confident children are given plenty of time and opportunity to contribute and provides a wonderful narrative. For example, as children carve pumpkins, the childminder says, 'well done, scoop scoop scoop', emphasising the words to help build on children's vocabulary. n Children develop well in their mathematical skills. They count how many bricks they have and describe their tower using mathematical vocabulary. The childminder uses interesting resources to help children move on from reciting numbers to recognising numerals.

need to do better?
30 October 2019 n Children introduce the inspector to 'Reuben', a doll who they explain likes to dress up in different clothes, including dresses and other costumes. This sensitive and well-considered approach to tackling gender stereotyping greatly promotes children's understanding, appreciation and respect of difference. n Children are widely independent, particularly in their self-care. For example, children wash their own faces after lunch and use the mirror to check they have not missed any areas. Children also attend to their toileting needs entirely independently. As they return downstairs they announce how good they are at holding on to the banister and go on to explain why it is important to do so, demonstrating their firm understanding of how to keep themselves safe. n The childminder values feedback she receives, such as from parents, local authority advisors and from online forum networks. She uses this information to

inform her self-evaluation and to make changes and improvements to her provision. The childminder has identified she would benefit from further training. She completes all mandatory training but has not explored further professional development opportunities that focus more precisely on strengthening practice and teaching. n The childminder implements a confidentiality policy and maintains the privacy of children's personal information. She is aware of her responsibility to notify Ofsted of any changes or significant events.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder has a secure understanding of the signs that may indicate a child is at risk of harm. She is aware of the procedures to follow in responding to and reporting her concerns, as determined by her Local Safeguarding Children Board. The childminder is proactive and keeps herself up to date through training and online research. This helps to maintain her child protection knowledge and to understand and explore wider issues of safeguarding. The childminder carries out thorough risk assessment of her home and ahead of all outings. She maintains required ratios and keeps accurate records including accident, complaints and visitor logs.

should:
n build consistently on children's next steps in learning to support them to make the best possible progress n enhance the use of professional development opportunities to focus more precisely on deepening knowledge and skills to help raise the quality of teaching to the highest levels.
