p.2

The provision is good

The childminder joins in with children's play, developing their interest and confidence and motivating them successfully. Young children eagerly experiment during a painting activity. The childminder discusses colours with the children, suggests possible techniques and models ideas. Young children show curiosity and are motivated to learn. They experiment and follow their ideas and concentrate well on things that interest them. Children develop their hand-to-eye coordination effectively. They make purposeful marks with brushes, creating lines and shapes. They also coordinate their movements well as they explore different construction blocks. They listen to the childminder's instructions, adding and then pushing blocks down to connect them.

in the fresh air and develop their physical skills on the range of equipment. Children also enjoy being active during song time. They smile broadly as they stomp and stamp their feet as the monsters in the song do. n Young children's communication is developing well. They listen and show their understanding as they respond to the childminder's questions and follow her instructions. The childminder is chatty and offers a running commentary to children about what she is doing, giving them lots of useful speech to hear and copy. They then eagerly try out and successfully copy the childminder's repeated words and clear pronunciation. Their confidence grows and their language develops well as they learn new words in the context of their play.

5 November 2019 n Young children learn early mathematical and literacy skills effectively. They develop a love of books and independently select them. They eagerly look at the pictures and point out things to the childminder. She discusses and names items to extend children's understanding and interest further. Young children develop their knowledge of shapes and colours in many activities and they learn numbers in fun action songs. n Overall, the childminder has good relationships with parents. She shares information about children's learning and development in daily discussions and through entries in their daily learning diary. However, the childminder's partnership working with parents is not consistently effective. She is not always successful in helping them to support children's learning at home, particularly with regard to developing children's healthy lifestyles and diet. n The childminder has developed practice appropriately since her last inspection.

p.2

need to do better?

She has fulfilled the recommendations that were raised and involves parents in her plans and the service she offers. The childminder undertakes mandatory and some additional training. However, she does not target her professional development to consistently gain new ideas and help her strengthen all aspects of her practice.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder carries out thorough risk assessments of her home and garden and when taking children on outings. She is vigilant as they play and explore and offers them reminders on safe practices, such as not standing on the furniture as they may fall. She is familiar with the procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child. She attends regular training, such as safeguarding-related courses and paediatric first-aid training, to keep her child protection knowledge updated and to help her keep children safe and well.

p.3

should:

n develop partnerships with parents further, to fully involve them in supporting children's development at home n target training and arrangements for gaining new ideas more sharply, to areas which need to improve most.
