p.1

The provision is good

The childminder provides a well-organised environment in a homely atmosphere. Well-planned activities spark children's curiosity. For example, under supervision, even very young children learn to use cutting tools safely to make fresh fruit kebabs. Children enjoy handling different fruits and exploring their textures and juiciness. The childminder uses the activity to introduce children to mathematics. Children identify and count fruit, match numbers and begin to recognise fractions. The childminder pays close attention to each child's understanding and adjusts her teaching to meet individual learning needs.

The childminder knows each child very well and skilfully uses children's interests or experiences. For example, children become animated when singing songs from a popular show. The childminder expertly introduces them to stories and books linked to the show. Children become engrossed and begin to ask probing questions that help to extend their learning.
