The provision is good
The childminder provides a welcoming and safe environment for children to learn and develop. Children are motivated and generally enjoy the learning opportunities that the childminder provides for them. Older children concentrate for long periods on activities that interest them. The childminder enhances the experience by introducing new vocabulary and mathematical terminology. For example, older children cut out shapes in the dough competently and the childminder encourages them to name the different shapes. Children are learning new vocabulary. For example, the childminder uses words such as 'squidgy' and 'squashy' during children's play. She demonstrates rolling the dough 'round' and 'round' for younger children. Children's independence is promoted well throughout the day. Older children are eager to help with small tasks and competently sweep up after a dough activity by using a dustpan and brush. Younger children are happy to help to

The provision is good

need to do better?
n The childminder is a good role model and gives children clear messages about how they should behave. She encourages children to share and take turns. She interjects with explanations about caring for one another to help divert any conflicts before they escalate. For instance, she asks older children what they think might happen if they push against a younger child. Older children are helped to think about the consequences of their actions. n The childminder offers constant and purposeful praise to children. She uses the opportunity to introduce a wider vocabulary. For example, she uses phrases such as 'that's fantastic concentration'. Children show great delight when they receive words of encouragement and praise. This helps to boost children's confidence and raise their self-esteem. n The childminder works well with parents, and their written comments are very complimentary about her professionalism and integrity. Comments made include

17 October 2019 the childminder. They are confident in choosing resources they want to play with. However, on some occasions during planned activities, there is little adaptation to adequately maintain the interest of younger children. This means they become disruptive too easily. n Children help to prepare a healthy snack. They thoroughly enjoy helping to cut up the fruit. The childminder enhances the learning and development experiences by introducing colours and mathematical concepts such as 'bigger' and 'smaller' into conversations. However, opportunities for children to gain an understanding of the impact of healthy eating on their bodies are not always explored. n The childminder ensures that children are given many opportunities to learn about the world they live in. Children have regular trips to the park where they experience the changing seasons at first hand. They are gaining an understanding of the wider world. Children regularly attend groups that reflect
