Inspection report for children‟s home - monitoring visit: SC383941 1 SC383941

p.1

Archways Care Ltd

Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework

p.1

Information about this children’s home

The home is one of three homes run by a private organisation. It is registered to provide care and accommodation for up to four children who display emotional difficulties and/or challenging behaviour. The current manager has worked for the company since May 2019. She has 22 years’ fostering and residential experience.

p.1

This monitoring visit

This children’s home was judged inadequate at the full inspection on 3 June 2019. Two compliance notices were issued, listing steps that the home must take to meet regulations in respect of fire safety and leadership and management. A monitoring visit was undertaken on 17 July 2019. At that visit, two further compliance notices were issued in relation to leadership and management and the protection of children. A restriction of accommodation notice was also issued on 23 July 2019 and this runs until 14 October 2019. A full inspection was undertaken on 9 September 2019. The home was judged to be requires improvement with a judgement of inadequate in leadership and management. The inspection found that leaders and managers had not taken sufficient steps to address shortfalls in the monitoring and review of the home. As a result, the compliance notice was not met and a further compliance notice was reissued.

p.1

This monitoring visit

To evaluate the progress being made by the provider, a monitoring visit was conducted on 11 October 2019. The purpose of this inspection was to review whether action had been taken to meet the steps in the compliance notice and whether the provider continued to adhere to the restriction of accommodation notice. No children have been admitted to the home since the last inspection. Consequently, the provider has adhered to the restriction notice issued. Inspection report for children‟s home - monitoring visit: SC383941 2 All staff have now completed mandatory training and some additional training as per the organisation’s requirements and training plan. This means that all staff now have some of the skills and knowledge to meet the needs of children in their care. The organisation has implemented new monitoring and review systems in the home. Although still in their infancy, these systems will better enable managers to identify

and address areas that require further improvement. There is still some work to be undertaken in two of the children’s bedrooms that are unoccupied. However, this will be completed within the coming weeks. At present, the provider is actively recruiting to fill the home’s staff vacancies. There are enough staff to care for the child living at the home. As a result of this monitoring visit, Ofsted deems that the compliance notice has been met. The restriction of accommodation will end on 14 October 2019. The remainder of the requirements raised at the last full inspection will be reviewed at the next full inspection.
