The provision requires improvement
The childminder has created a warm and welcoming environment that promotes children's learning and development. Accessible resources support children in building on what they already know and extend their development in all areas of learning. Children are active and eager to explore. They engage well during both adult-led activities and those that they choose for themselves. The childminder plans a broad curriculum which contains plenty of enjoyable activities which are based on children's interests. The childminder is ambitious and has high expectations for the children in her care. Her encouragement and interactions during play give children positive learning experiences. Children have access to a broad range of books and have opportunities to learn and recognise numbers and letters. This helps them to develop their early literacy and number skills. The childminder provides good support for children's emerging communication skills.

The provision requires improvement
She talks to them as they play and introduces new words. Children make good progress from their starting points. Although the childminder has enrolled on first- aid training, her current certificate has expired. Children's safety is, therefore, compromised. The childminder role models positive behaviour, and children listen and respond well to instructions and new ideas. The childminder follows children's interests and forms close relationships with them, which supports their personal, social and emotional development well. At times, however, she does not make the most of opportunities for children to develop their independence skills.

need to do better?
n Children are very happy within the homely setting. They develop a strong bond with the childminder and forge positive relationships. n The childminder has not maintained a current paediatric first-aid certificate so she has not ensured her knowledge of first aid is up to date. n Children develop increasingly high levels of confidence. As they play, young children happily sing the songs and rhymes they have learned. n The childminder builds good relationships with parents and works in partnership with them. She encourages parents to be closely engaged in their children's learning, and involves them fully by regularly sharing information about their children's care and development. n The childminder has a good knowledge of how children learn and uses observation and assessment effectively to identify children's next steps in learning. n The childminder is attentive, which is a strength of her practice. Occasionally,

however, she misses some opportunities to promote children's independence. She completes some tasks for children and does not encourage them to try for themselves, for example putting on their own boots to go outside. n The childminder knows the children well. She understands what they like to play

1 October 2019 with and uses these interests effectively to plan activities that support their learning. Children make good progress from their starting points. n The childminder provides a healthy diet and encourages children to be physically active. The garden space is particularly inviting. Children are free to play, investigate, learn and imagine. For example, they look for animal statues hidden in the garden. n The childminder is keen to continue her professional development to further enhance her already good teaching. She reflects on her provision and uses evaluations of her service to improve her setting.

Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder is confident in her role and clear about her responsibility to protect children's welfare and to keep children safe from harm. She can recognise the signs and symptoms of abuse and has a secure understanding of the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about children's welfare. The childminder ensures that her knowledge is up to date by completing local safeguarding training. She completes regular risk assessments to ensure the safety of the children is her highest priority. The childminder follows the correct procedures for ensuring that Ofsted is provided with relevant information to check the suitability of members of the household.
