p.1

The provision is good

Children are very settled and happy and have warm relationships with staff. Staff know children and their families exceptionally well and have high expectations for what every child can achieve. Children are engaged and motivated to learn. They confidently explore the environments around them. They are aware of how to keep themselves safe and can manage risks when going out for an autumnal walk. Children listen well, demonstrate good sharing and turn-taking and have positive relationships with their peers. They are all confident to speak in front of a group and their ideas are listened to and respected. Children demonstrate good independence skills, including managing personal hygiene, helping to set up before snack and lunch, and eagerly helping to tidy away things afterwards. They enjoy playing circle games and singing songs and excitedly join in.

p.2

need to do better?

n Staff skilfully adapt teaching to meet children's individual needs. Children make good progress from their starting points and are well prepared for the next phase in their learning. n Staff successfully promote children's emotional and physical well-being. For example, they talk about how children are feeling and why this is. They encourage children to talk about healthy eating and keeping their teeth clean. n Children are active learners. They have good interactions with staff which support their communication and language development. Staff challenge and extend children's thinking by asking questions and giving them time to respond. They extend children's vocabulary by modelling and introducing new and interesting language, such as 'hibernating'. n Parent partnerships are effective and parents are pleased with the progress their children are making while attending the setting. Parents are confident that staff

cater for individual children's preferences. n The setting has strong community partnerships, including with the local school. The staff hold regular events to which they invite the local community and external agencies. n The well-designed curriculum provides children with rich and meaningful learning opportunities. These enhance their personal experiences and support their development in all areas of learning. For example, children went on a trip to the beach and they regularly visit nearby farm animals. n Robust recruitment procedures are followed to ensure that all staff and volunteers are suitable. n The manager regularly monitors the quality of teaching and ensures that all staff and volunteers stay up to date with developments in training. However, there is not a sharp focus on identifying specific training needs to further improve the practice of individuals.

p.2

need to do better?

1 October 2019 n The manager has a good awareness of the setting's strengths and areas for improvement. Staff reflect on practice but are not all fully involved in contributing to robust self-evaluation to drive improvement.

p.2

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

All staff are confident in knowing the correct policies and procedures to follow to keep children safe. They are aware of the signs to monitor and look out for that may indicate that a child's welfare is at risk. Staff have completed relevant training and stay up to date with new legislation. Volunteers have also completed relevant training. They are confident in adhering to the safeguarding policy and know how to keep children safe.

p.3

should:

n develop performance management further to focus more sharply on the specific training needs of all staff and volunteers to improve their practice n strengthen opportunities to embed self-evaluation further so that all staff and volunteers are fully aware of the setting's strengths and further areas for improvement.
