p.1

The provision is good

The childminder makes full use of her home to provide a broad range of learning experiences for children. Older children are confident as they move freely between playrooms, while adults give them plenty of time to choose their own play or complete an activity. For example, while some children engross themselves in a gluing and sticking activity, others sit on the rug with the childminder and show good concentration as they complete a large floor puzzle together. The engagement between the children and adults is delightful to watch; they show real warmth and kindness in their interactions towards one another.

p.2

The provision is good

Children show that they are emotionally secure, and the childminder and her staff know how to provide ongoing support. For instance, they are quick to identify when a child may be going through a change at home, such as the arrival of a new sibling, and work with parents to address this effectively. All children show that they are happy and enjoy attending this setting.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder is reflective and considers ways to broaden children's real-life experiences. For example, she planned an outing with the children using public transport when she discovered some children had not been on a bus before. The children thoroughly enjoyed this new experience.

need to do better?

n The childminder has a secure knowledge of children's individual learning needs. She assesses their progress and uses this information well to address any gaps in their learning. The childminder works alongside other professionals to target her support where it is most needed. This helps to narrow any gaps in children's development. n Children show a keen interest in exploring books and develop good communication skills from a young age. They listen attentively as adults read stories and ask relevant questions to encourage children to make predictions. However, at times, older children do not have the same opportunities to practise their early mathematical skills compared to other areas of learning. In addition, some resources on offer to babies are not always reflective of their current age and stage of development. n Partnerships with parents are effective. The childminder has made suitable changes since her last inspection to ensure there is a regular exchange of

information with parents. During the inspection, parents were complimentary about the service they receive, including the opportunity to view their children's work using an online assessment tool. n The childminder and her staff are good role models. They help children to manage their own feelings and relate to other children, for example by

30 September 2019 reminding them about the importance of showing 'kind hands'. Children are well behaved and understand what is expected of them. n The childminder provides children with daily access to drinking water as well as healthy and nutritious snacks. She ensures that her staff have a good understanding of children's dietary requirements. For example, staff have completed a relevant course about common allergen in foods to update their knowledge. Children enjoy regular physical play outdoors. This is despite the childminder's garden currently being out of use due to temporary building work. Children enjoy running in the local playing field or going on school walks. n Processes for staff recruitment and induction are thorough. The childminder ensures all her staff have undergone required suitability checks before working with children. She provides a detailed induction programme for new staff so they

are familiar with all aspects of their role, including safeguarding procedures and the setting's fire evacuation plan. n Staff benefit from regular one-to-one supervision meetings with the childminder. The childminder uses this opportunity well to discuss individual key children, identify staff training needs and address any performance issues. Staff show that they are happy in their role and morale is good.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder demonstrates a secure knowledge of the main signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect. She is familiar with the procedures for reporting any welfare concerns or allegations. The childminder ensures that staff deploy themselves effectively and she adheres fully to required adult-to-child ratios. All adults are vigilant and know how to respond quickly should they identify a potential hazard or risk. Children play in a secure and safe environment.

should:

n consider the developmental stage of babies when deciding on suitable toys and resources, to enhance their overall learning experience n increase everyday opportunities for older children to make full use of their early mathematical knowledge and to acquire new skills.
