p.1

The provision is good

Children are happy and settled. The childminder has formed strong bonds with them and they are relaxed in her care. They receive lots of reassurance and cuddles, which helps them to feel content. Children independently access resources and lead their own play. They enthusiastically make marks with chunky crayons and show the childminder their creations. Children learn about cause and effect as they push buttons and pull flaps to make toys move or make noises. They concentrate as they manoeuvre small cars up and down the garage slope. The childminder joins in with their play and engages them in meaningful conversations. Children make links to home as they talk about the colours of their family cars. Babies wriggle and giggle as the childminder sings. Children enjoy joining in with action songs and rhymes. The childminder uses associative sounds and single words to support babies' emerging speech. Children develop an awareness of

words and their meanings as the childminder reads stories and encourages them to look at age-appropriate books. Good settling-in procedures support children to feel secure when they first begin to attend. Babies sleep peacefully in comfortable surroundings. The childminder regularly checks on them to ensure they are safe and well. The childminder takes children to places of interest within their community. They attend toddler groups, music sessions, sensory play activities and visit the library. This supports children's social skills and enables them to develop an understanding and respect for those who are different to them.

n The childminder is enthusiastic and kind. She provides children with a wide range of high-quality resources, toys and equipment, indoors and outside. n Children's personal care is supported well. They adopt good hygiene routines. The childminder provides children with nutritious meals and snacks. Babies grasp fruit with their fingers and try very hard to put it in their mouths. n The childminder has a sound understanding of the curriculum. She organises a wide range of interesting play activities. The childminder demonstrates how to use a wand to make bubbles. Children explore the texture of hay and oats as they play with characters from 'The Gruffalo'. However, the childminder does not always organise activities well enough to enable the youngest children to be as fully engaged in their learning as the older ones are. n The childminder uses her assessments of each child to plan what they need to lean next. However, she does not seek enough information from parents about

what children already know and can do when they first begin to attend, to enable her to plan even more effectively for children's learning from the outset. n Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder shares information with them in a range of ways. For example, she talks to them at the beginning and end of the day and adds photographs of their children's achievements to online

26 September 2019 learning records. n Written feedback from parents demonstrates the high regard they have for the childminder. They state how impressed they are with the range of activities she provides and describe her as being thoughtful, helpful and caring. n The childminder has good links with the local school and other provisions children attend to ensure she provides continuity of care and a complementary approach to their learning. n Children have lots of opportunities to be physically active and play outside in the fresh air. They explore textures such as sand, and make 'mud pies' in the childminder's garden. Children enjoy going for walks with the childminder. They eagerly splash and jump in puddles.

The childminder keeps her knowledge up to date by accessing regular training.
