p.1
The provision is good
The childminder is very enthusiastic, positive and welcoming. She provides a homely and nurturing environment that successfully supports children's emotional security and individual differences. Children of all ages delight in exploring the highly stimulating and exciting indoor and outdoor play areas. They show strong motivation as they discover, investigate and develop their ideas creatively. The childminder fully supports children to explore nature and ignites their interest in the world around them. Children eagerly mix, measure, build and create with natural resources in the wonderfully adventurous garden. They progress well in all areas of their development. Children are particularly physically active and confidently walk along balance beams outdoors. They show great awareness of safety as they take extra care not to slip in the wet weather.
p.2
The provision is good
The childminder has high expectations for children overall. However, at times, older children are not fully challenged in their learning, and occasionally children do not have time to work things out for themselves. Children demonstrate how happy, safe and confident they feel as they laugh, smile and sing during play. They are very considerate of each other and build strong bonds with the childminder and their friends. Older children kindly look out for younger children and often find and pass them their favourite toys. There is a loving, respectful and inclusive atmosphere.

need to do better?
n The well-qualified, experienced and dedicated childminder reflects closely on her practice and the quality of her provision. She works hard to improve her knowledge and introduce new ideas, for example, by accessing further training, support from early years professionals and visiting other successful settings. A major recent improvement has been the addition of a new art studio in the garden. Children eagerly use this and excitedly explore, create and design with a wide variety of natural resources and equipment. n The childminder knows the children very well. She precisely identifies what they know and can do, the progress they have made and what they need to learn next. She links this knowledge with her in-depth understanding of children's interests to provide a rich, engaging and broad curriculum that encourages all areas of learning. As a result, children are well prepared for their next stage in

learning and school. n The childminder is a strong role model and children learn to behave very well. They listen to her instructions and show respect for her home, happily tidying activities and toys away when they are finished. The childminder provides a wide range of healthy fruit and skilfully motivates children to try them. For example, children enjoy making 'fruit kebabs' as they slide different fruit onto sticks. They

24 September 2019 enthusiastically talk about their favourite flavours as they compare the different tastes. n Children benefit from an exciting range of activities and positive interactions from the childminder. For example, during the inspection they delighted in using an overhead projector to explore the shadows that different toys made. They also enjoyed decorating their own birthday cards for cuddly toys, before posting them in a toy postbox. However, the childminder sometimes misses opportunities to offer further challenge and teach new knowledge during her interactions with older children. This does not fully support their learning to the highest levels. n The childminder works very well with parents and keeps them fully up to date with their children's progress and experiences. She regularly shares ideas for how parents can support further learning at home and parents value this support highly. They particularly appreciate being able to take home their

children's favourite books to encourage a love of reading at home. n The childminder teaches children well and supports their language development particularly successfully. She continuously encourages thoughtful and engaging conversation, and children express themselves with great confidence. They enjoy sharing their ideas, remembering recent events and discussing their play. However, the childminder occasionally steps in too quickly after asking a question or offers help too soon. This slightly limits children's opportunities to solve problems themselves.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder is committed to ensuring children's safety. She regularly attends safeguarding training and keeps her knowledge up to date and fresh. She confidently knows the signs that a child's welfare may be at risk and the procedures to follow up on any such concerns. The childminder understands the need to protect children from extreme views and behaviours. She monitors children's attendance closely and provides a very safe and secure environment at all times.

should:
n offer more consistent support for older children to extend their learning further, for example by offering higher levels of challenge and teaching new knowledge n give children the time and opportunities they need to answer questions and complete challenges that arise in their play.
