The provision is good
Children demonstrate they are happy and feel comfortable in their surroundings. They settle quickly into play and chat happily with each other and the childminder. All children build strong attachments with the childminder. Young children enjoy space to wander around and explore the resources easily. Children enjoy being able to choose between indoor and outdoor play and benefit from outings to local attractions to support their growing curiosity about the world around them. This also contributes to children's physical development effectively. Children learn about sharing and taking turns. They are encouraged to include younger children in their games through sensitive explanations from the childminder.

The provision is good
The childminder has high expectations for all children. She plans a wide range of activities that excite and motivate them to learn. For example, children enjoy using numbers and letters during their play with dough. They recognise numbers, count confidently and recognise letters in their names. This helps to prepare older children for their move to school. Children enjoy the well-planned environment where they are able to easily choose resources of their choice. This helps to support children's growing independence skills. The childminder is calm, caring and motivated to provide childcare that is of a good quality and inclusive for all.

need to do better?
n Children are content in the childminder's home. They enjoy each other's company as they interact and play well together. Older children enjoy devising their own games, such as role play with dolls and prams. The childminder skilfully understands when to interact with the children and when to enable them to play independently. n Children are able to understand that they can freely access resources and make choices about what they would like to do next. The childminder asks children at the end of the day if there is anything special they would like to do the next day. For example, children really enjoy playing with modelling dough when they arrive, as they asked to do this. Children develop good concentration and social skills. n The childminder offers praise and encouragement regularly as the children achieve, helping to support their growing confidence and self-esteem. Children are well behaved and polite. Older children use their manners with little or no

prompting from the childminder. For example, when children hand the childminder dolls' clothes for her to help them dress their dolls, they ask for help using 'please' and 'thank you' without being reminded. Children gain the skills they need for their future learning. n The childminder supports children's communication and language skills effectively. She talks to them constantly as they interact. She repeats words and

17 September 2019 sounds to the youngest children to help them understand the correct way to say words and to acknowledge that she understands what they are trying to tell her. n Generally, the childminder has a good understanding of what children know and can do. She uses this information well to help her decide on what they need to learn next. However, the childminder recognises that she does not gather sufficient information from parents about what the children can already do when they start with her, to help her further with her initial observations of the children. n The childminder has built good partnerships with parents and carers. She talks with parents when they collect their children at the end of the day and shares details of how children are progressing in their learning, to help parents support their learning further at home. The childminder recognises that she needs to improve her partnerships with other early years settings that children attend so

that all adults have a consistent approach to support children's development effectively.

Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibilities to safeguard children in her care. She is confident about the procedures to follow should she have any child protection concerns about children in her care. The childminder is clear about the signs and indicators that may alert her to any concerns about a child's welfare. She is aware of the need to act quickly should the need arise. The childminder monitors and promotes children's regular attendance. She keeps her knowledge and training up to date to help her maintain children's safety and well- being.
